It looks like residents of the Philippines are going to be getting their hands on an Android-powered handset soon enough all thanks to Taiwanese firm HTC. Mark Sergio, HTC Philippines country manager, said that the company is ready to ship the G1 to customers after receiving a lot of inquiries about the device.

The company is still considering various ways to market the Android-powered handsets once they have been released locally. One possibility they are currently considering is copying the single-operator model of Deutsche Telekom. Sergio said, “Even if the Philippines is a pre-dominantly pre-paid market, there are subscribers who don’t use entry-level phones and who prefer smartphones like the ones that we offer. We are targeting that market.”

HTC has a very active relationship with local ISVs (independent software vendors), allowing the port of locally developed applications. It seems to be taking a little bit of time to get the G1 overseas. So far only the US and UK legally have the T-Mobile G1.
