BlackBerry Playbook gets hacked Android Market support

We don't cover the BlackBerry Playbook here on Android Community because, well, it's a BlackBerry. But some recent community mods may change that, at least after a fashion. IntoMobile reports that the latest rage amongst Playbook modders is rooting via a tool called Dingleberry (no comments form the peanut gallery, please). It turns out that if you root the latest version of the Playbook's Beta software, it's possible to use the Android emulator software therein to run just about any Android app you like - including the Android Market and other Google apps.

Samsung Exynos 5250 running at 2GHz coming by Q2 next year

We've been dreaming about it, but not quite sure when we would see the first Android device clocked at 2GHz (officially of course). The Samsung Exynos chips running at 1.0GHz, 1.2GHz, and 1.5GHz have functioned amazingly well in their Galaxy S II line, and knowing we should see the 2.0GHz SoC in a future tablet is definitely good news. Samsung was very clear this SoC would be geared towards high-end tablets, but maybe we'll find it in a few smartphones too.

ESRB content ratings wont be coming to Android or Mobile apps

The Entertainment Software Rating Board is something plenty of parents are familiar with. As kids I'm sure many remember or still deal with these same rating being plastered on everything we buy for Xbox, PC's, Mac, and more. They are the group that helps moms save their children from bloody or bad age-appropriate games and things on the interwebs.

(Technically we've got one UK correspondent, but we're pretty sure he takes the opportunity to skive off and laugh at the colonials every November.) So, without further ado: five things we're thankful for in the Android world, and one for which we definitely are not.

Android and iOS 1-up Nintendo and Sony on portable gaming revenue

Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for... Mario? As predicted, revenue from mobile games on the iOS App Store and Android Market are crushing their single-function competition, earning an estimated 58% of United States portable gaming revenue, according to Flurry. Take note: that's not individual app sales, that's total revenue, giving iOS and Android combined a 1.9 billion dollar share of the 3.3 billion dollar gaming pie. The percentage of revenue going to smartphones and tablets has nearly doubled in a single year.
