T-Mobile sale: Amaze 4G, Springboard and G-Slate for just $49 this weekend

There have been a few sales going on over the holidays, but it looks like T-Mobile is out to beat them for the new year. The carrier is preparing a sale for this weekend, from Friday, January 6th through Sunday, January 8th. The sale is (perhaps not by coincidence) scheduled right before CES 2012. If you're in the market for a few specific Android models, you'll want to pay close attention. Without a doubt, the highlight of the sale is the current leader in T-Mobile's lineup, the HTC Amaze 4G, which will be reduced from $229.99 to just $49.99.

The 5 Best (and Worst) Android Devices of 2011

Ah, New Year's Day. A time for reflection and resolution, and in many cases, staying up too late in the company of good friends and large amounts of alcohol. Here at Android Community, we like to ring in the new year sitting quietly in wingback chair, staring contemplatively into a roaring fire and guzzling a $5 gallon of brandy while watching the Times Square ball drop on our Android tablets. Before we start getting the old DT's, we'll wrap up the best - and worst - devices of 2011.

Lenovo, ZTE and other Chinese OEMs band together to fight Android patent trolls

If you're tired of seeing all the patent lawsuit stories that pop up on Android Community, imagine how tired we are of writing them. We're not alone, and a group of Chinese manufacturers is reportedly joining forces to fight off the legal bulldogs from Apple, Microsoft, Oracle and the like. DigiTimes reports that Lenovo, ZTE and smaller manufacturers TCL, Coolpad and Konka have formed an alliance to jointly defend against corporate patent trolls in the huge and growing Chinese smartphone market.

Huawei promises showstopping smartphone for Mobile World Congress

As previously stated, Huawei is making a big push towards high-end smartphones worldwide, and in the United States in particular. In a bit of non-specific PR relayed to GSM Arena, the company promised to unveil "our smartest, fastest and most high-performing smartphone yet" in an event just before the start of Mobile World Congress in February. Consider our interest thoroughly peaked.

T-Mobile Springboard Review

You've got a lot of choice when looking for a new Android tablet, but the T-Mobile Springboard is something novel. For just $179 (after a mail-in rebate and on contract, natch) you get a 7-inch Honeycomb tablet with a 720p screen and a dual-core processor. That makes the Springboard one of the smallest tablets around, and assuming you're down with T-Mobile's mobile data fees, one of the cheapest as well. The Springboard will be available starting on November 16th.

Best Buy Takes Tablets Seriously with Massive Floor Setting

Starting this week in earnest, Best Buy will be revolutionizing the way you see tablets. That is, they're dedicating quite a bit of floor space to the cause, and you're not going to be able to see the laptops and the desktop computers without first having to get through the tablet gallery. In a move that can only point toward one thing, Best Buy's suddenly shown their understanding of the way the market's turning, and turning quick. In addition, as I'm sure you've already guessed, the majority of these tables are Androids, or in the case of the Barnes & Noble tablets, have Android in them, and Best Buy has most of them in stock!
