OPPO has announced their latest smartphone, the R819. This handset is being billed as “one of the thinnest and lightest smartphones in the world.” With that in mind, the OPPO R819 measures in at 7.3mm thick and weighs in at 110 grams. Perhaps more interesting here, OPPO will be releasing the R819 with a few options in terms of the software.

Details coming from OPPO mention how they believe users have the freedom to run what they want. That being the case, they are offering the option to use the original stock ROM or go with the OPPO Color ROM. It was said the Color ROM will be available “soon” and that the original stock ROM will allow users to experience Android as Google intended. And while they haven’t dubbed this a Google Edition phone, it certainly looks like that is what they had in mind.

Looking to the hardware and we see a device that will launch with a 4.7-inch 720p display (1280 x 720 and 312PPI), quad-core 1.2GHz MT6589 processor and 1GB of RAM. Other specs include 16GB of storage, a 2000 mAh battery, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, 2 megapixel front-facing camera and a Sony Exmor 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and f/2.0 aperture.

Otherwise, OPPO will have the handset sitting with Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and the following for network connectivity; GSM: 850/900/1800/1900MHz and WCDMA: 850/900/2100MHz. The handset will also have dual-SIM card support.

So far the folks at OPPO have said the R819 will begin shipping in early-September. We are expecting to see pre-orders go live fairly soon and for now there has yet to be any word on pricing. But given those pre-orders should be live soon, we suspect the pricing details will arrive sooner rather than later. In the past OPPO has had handsets available direct from them as well as with Amazon.
