It seems that OPPO‘s dual-booting N1 smartphone will soon have a smaller sibling. A certain OPPO N5116, believed to be the OPPO N1 mini, is making its way through the FCC baring smaller and slightly lower specs than the N1.

Truth be told, the OPPO N1 isn’t exactly a remarkable smartphone. It’s spec sheet borders between mid-tier and high-end, running on a 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 with 2 GB of RAM. The swiveling camera, which can let you take a selfie in full 13 megapixels, is gimmicky at best. And the 5.9-inch 1920×1080 screen is definitely and literally a handful.

Thus, a smaller N1 is a very welcome sight. Based on documents unearthed from the FCC, this smartphone will have a screen size of 5.0 inches and a resolution of 1280×720. Quite a downgrade, but at least supports 720p for that more handy size. It is yet unknown what will be driving the N1 mini, though there is talk that it will be some octa-core chip, which, at the moment, translates to a MediaTek processor.

Of course, one of the highlights of the OPPO N1 for the Android community is its ability to also run CyanogenMod beside OPPO’s own ColorOS flavor. In this regard, we do hope that the OPPO N1 mini, should it really be this smartphone, follow its older sibling not only in name but also in spirit.
