As previously reported, the OPPO N1 will finally be open for purchase this month. On December 10, people from other parts of the globe will get to enjoy their choice of OPPO’s customized Android experience or CyanogenMod‘s own flavor.

OPPO formally announced its much talked about smartphone last September. Despite being primarily a Chinese brand, the N1 managed to catch attention of the global Android community because of its ties with CyanogenMod, or rather, the newly formed Cyanogen, Inc. The smartphone itself is a mixed bag of features, starting with a slightly older 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, paired with 2 GB of RAM. The screen is quite large at 5.9 inches, but doesn’t disappoint with its 1920×1080 pixel resolution. It only has one camera, pegged at 13 megapixels. To call it a rear camera, however, would be inaccurate, as the section of the device housing it can be rotated to face the user as well.

By itself, the OPPO N1 sounds rather common by now, but its claim to fame, of course, is the software. Or to be more correct, one of the software offered on the device. There is still a bit of confusion surrounding this aspect of the N1. Currently, there are two models of the device available. There is a regular version that runs OPPO’s Android tweaks, but there is also another one that has CyanogenMod running out of the box, providing users with a near-vanilla Android experience. That said, even the regular N1 will be able to easily install and boot into CyanogenMod without having to root and flash the device.

There is no information yet on which version will launch next week, though, in the end, there might not be much difference except for a few extra steps. We can only assume that both models will be priced the same as only one price tag has been given, $599 or $449 for European buyers.
