Microsoft’s OneDrive announced they are increasing their cloud storage capacity, giving 15GB free for everyone from the previous 7GB. If you’re an Office 365 subscriber, you may not need an external hard drive anymore as they are also upping their cloud storage to 1TB to upload not just their usual files and photos but even media files like videos and music.
They say that this is born out of their research that 3 out of 4 people nowadays store less than 15GB on their computers, meaning they are probably storing the rest of their files on a cloud somewhere. So they thought of providing additional storage to anyone who uses OneDrive, no strings attached. But of course for those who have a monthly subscription to Office 365 would get a much higher cloud storage at 1TB. So for as low as $6.99/mo (for Office 365 Personal), you can get all that storage plus access to the Office suite and apps for all your devices (laptop, tablet, phone). Other Office 365 subscriptions include Office 365 Home ($9.99/mo) and University ($79.99/4 years).
For those who are not content with just the free 15GB of storage, OneDrive is also reducing storage prices by as much as 70%. You can get 100GB of space for only $1.99/mo and 200GB for $3.99/mo. Those who are currently subscribed to the monthly storage fees will automatically get lower billing starting next month.
OneDrive needs to compete with other more popular cloud storage apps like Dropbox and Google Drive. Dropbox users can get as much as 50GB of free storage while Google Drive offers 15GB for Google users and 30GB for those who use Google Apps for work or school.
