The smartwatch space continues to be tested and it is looking like the latest entry is going to be one called the Omate TrueSmart. This will be another watch that takes the funding campaign route. The folks at Omate have yet to specify which platform they will be using, however they have provided us with a few early details about what can be expected.

Not to mention, with a few images for us to share here on Android Community. That aside though, the Omate TrueSmart will be a bit different from some of the other smartwatch players. To begin with, this one will be running Android and powered by a dual-core processor. Specifically, one can expect to find Android 4.2.2 along with a dual-core 1GHz Cortex A7 MediaTek MT6572 processor.

Sticking with the processor talk, the folks behind the watch have said this means the Omate TrueSmart will be able to run Android apps “natively and properly.” This includes everything from voice commands to voice-to-text, voice navigation and more. Adding a bit more to this, the Omate TrueSmart is also described as being a “smartwatch-phone” which means it will be able to function by itself or when paired with another device such as a smartphone, tablet or Google Glass. The watch will have Bluetooth and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n as well as 3G connectivity.

While all this is building up to something interesting, how about we shift to the display. After all, this is what is going to be seen right from the beginning. In this case you can expect to find an AMOLED color display that measures in at 1.5-inches with a resolution of 240 x 240. Other goodies include 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 512MB of RAM and A-GPS along with an accelerometer and magnetometer.

Getting even closer to the bit about this being a smartwatch-phone and we find a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus. The Omate will also have a 600 mAh battery, however we have yet to see anything in terms of what that will translate to in terms of usage hours. Finally, the Omate TrueSmart will also arrive sporting an IP67 certification for water and dust. Basically, that just means you will be able to take this out in the rain, for a swim or in the shower without worry.

And just in case that wasn’t enough for the Android geek. The team behind the Omate has said the watch is rootable and that it will work with CWM Recovery.

While there appears to be a solid set of specs, similar to the lack of information regarding the battery life, we have yet to see anything in terms of pricing. Timelines are always subject to change, however the team has said they are already committed to an October delivery. And to touch on that, they mentioned how they already “have the full manufacturing capability ready” because “key members in the team are industry experts with experience and expertise in producing technology (incl. smartphones) commercial products.”

  1. this sounds amazing however there is one huge flaw, the display. This should not use AMOLED but rather LCD so that it is more legible in the Sun light.

    • You‘ve definitely hit the nail on the head – something we’ve been debating it’s a balance of readability and power usage, a fine balance we are tweaking before our product confirmantion announcement. We’ll add in your feedback. Thanks!

  2. Shoutout to DEVELOPERS : drop us a message here or on FB / Twitter / G+ (look for OmateTrueSmart), we are looking for you!! creating a developers list to support a vibrant developers platform with the Omate TrueSmart.

  3. This is too good to be true! In case it is not just a hoax, I have a few suggestions to make this the ideal smartwatch:
    – a slightly larger screen, with a 320*240 pixel resolution (standard qvga, which would increase the compatibility with existing apps a lot)
    – removable strap so that the unit could be clipped on eg swimming google straps (the GPS is not working under water plus this way it could be used as an mp3 player during swimming)
    – standard mini jack plug for earphones
    – full two way synchronisation including call log, sms, email (this way the device could be used as a mobile phone accessory of tablets without phoning capability, eg all ipads)
If all these are implemented I will be the first buyer 🙂

  4. It’s gonna happen. I feel they are very dedicated and offer quick feedback on comments. They want it bad enough. Now they just need to tweak the design and options. I’m in.
