While most of the current smartwatches in the market are trying to outdo each other when it comes to features and looks, almost turning it into a really tiny smartphone, one company believes that the simpler and the prettier, the better. And it is their first product ever, so it’s a pretty bold move going up against more established OEMs. But Olio is confident that they’ll find a niche amongst those who prefer their notifications few and their smartwatches stylish.

The brain behind this unique smartwatch is someone who has worked in product design for such companies as Apple and HP so he does know what he’s doing. Steve Jacobs says he wanted to create a product that is not made of cheap material and will last you for a long time, while at the same time not drive you crazy with all the notifications and features, even though it is still a smartwatch. It has been meticulously designed to look like a regular but stylish and durable watch but at the same time has features that you would only find on wearable tech.

Olio’s bracelets and casings are mired to precision, even so far as using oleopathic coating so that your oily wrists will not damage it and using the traditional way of watchmaking to find the center of gravity so that it will nest well on your arm. In terms of functionality, you get a schedule pane, weather forecast, alarms stopwatch, music playback, and yes, the time. Notifications are called temporal streams and it’s organized in two strands. The “earlier” one is for missed calls, incoming messages, etc, while the “later” strand is for upcoming events or things that haven’t happened yet. You can interact with the notifications by choosing “Yes”, “No” or “Maybe”.

This smart smartwatch is available for pre-order now but will start shipping by summer. It is available in either steel or PVD-coated black and will work with both iOS and Android. You’ll need to shell out at least $595, but if the watch is as durable as it seems, it should be worth it as it will last you a long time.
