With the tablet market exploding in 2010 with the introduction of the iPad, many are now looking to different options. As of now, Android tablets are lacking, without a optimized UI, they just cannot compete with the iPad – but that is all expected to change with the release of Android (3.0/2.4?) Honeycomb. And according to a Citigroup analyst, Google has made the Tegra processor the reference design for their Honeycomb release of Android.

The NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset which is a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 will boast speeds that we haven’t even imagined yet, pair that with Android Honeycomb and a large screen and you’ve got yourself one very impressive device.

Just as the Nexus One and its processor were the “Golden Standard,” Honeycomb’s Golden Standard will be the Tegra 2. The tablet battle of 2011 will sure be an interesting one to watch, and we will for sure keep you updated with all the latest happenings – starting with CES 2011 in January.

  1. The tegra 2 processor supposedly has a dual core 1.2ghz speed rating. While this is not necessarily new in mobile/netbook processors, for the handset/tablet market, it does ramp up the processing capability for a lite o/s such as android– hopefully it will come with 512/1gb of RAM to work its app magic upon as well!
