Retro gaming has always been with us, thanks to platform emulators that let us play the games of yesteryear. But imagine all those emulators in one platform. Oh yeah, you can actually do that if you know your way around Kodi, and you have a good Android TV console of sorts at home. But what if you could bring it along with you, all your emulators in one powerful 7-inch tablet with controllers designed specifically for gaming? That’s what the NVIDIA JXD S192 is, and it’s up for pre-orders now in the UK market.

The NVIDIA JXD S192 was formerly the JXD Singularity 192, until NVIDIA bought the rights to manufacture the product and announced it last year. Under the hood, it looks and sounds like an NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet. It’s got a 7-inch WUXGA (1920×1200) full Retina display (like an iPad), but is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor with a 192-core Kepler GPU and supported by 2GB RAM. The software is based on Android 4.2 and is able to run multiple legacy platforms including the PS1, MAME, Dreamcast, N64, NeoGeo, Atari, NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, Gameboy Advance, SEGA Master System, SEGA Mega Drive, CPS1, CPS2, Amiga, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and others. If you’re not ok with that, there are always current games via the Google Play Store.

The JXD S192 is not shaped like a standard tablet – in fact, it looks more like an oversized game controller. This belies the focus on gaming, and not on standard tablet usage. Most gamers agree that the standard tablet platform is not optimal for gaming. For your gaming, the tablet has a 10,000mAh battery, which should give you enough game time and then some.

Funstockretro.uk is offering the device for pre-order at £219.99 or around USD$315. The device will reportedly ship by May 6. We’re already drooling at the fact that most of our retro console platforms are in there. Would you want this?

  1. I think there has been a mistake here. Pretty sure Nvidia did not buy the rights to the JXD S192. Absolutely no one else is backing this claim up.

Can the author of this article please indicate the source of this info. The word around the traps is that this is plain false.
