NVIDIA Shield owners are getting a pretty significant update for December. New software features enhance the previous update, and bring some great new stuff to the mix as well. There is also added support for popular titles, and an improvement to an already good feature.

To start, Gamestream is getting an improvement, allowing users to stream from the PC at up to 1080p. It also supports 60fps, though both features ask that you use Console Mode and be plugged in using Ethernet. For WiFi users, you’ll still get the 60fps performance, but the resolution will scale down to 720p.

Gamepad Mapper gets a significan upgrade as well, with the most notable being a sharing feature. Still in beta, Gamepad sharing allows for users to share their configuration, which allows for browsing and voting on setups as well. We also gain the ability to map gyro simulation to the thumbsticks via a brand ne “motion sensor” feature, and improved right thumbstick functionality for FPS games. If you’re in joystick mouse mode, there is a neat “Accelerated cursor” feature.

There are also a few tweaks for full screen mode, wherein you can access the status bar by swiping down from the top, and there is an option to autohide that status bar. Gamestream has also added support for four great PC titles: Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Battelfield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Batman: Arkham Origins. All tolled, this is a radically updated Shield for the holidays, and one that should entice a few more purchases.
