We suspect many of the NVIDIA SHIELD users are still enjoying the recent update. That one brought the handheld to Kit Kat, but likely more important were the GameStream improvements dealing with remote streaming (and more). And while that update almost had SHIELD users feeling like they had a new device in hand, it looks like specs for the second-generation SHIELD have recently surfaced.

The specs have been discovered by way of an AnTuTu benchmark report and begin with something sort of expected — Tegra K1. Details here suggest the processor will be a quad-core Tegra K1 running at 2.5GHz. It also looks like users can expect 4GB of RAM in the SHIELD 2.

For comparison, the current model SHIELD is powered by a quad-core Tegra 4 at 1.9GHz with 2GB of RAM. This AnTuTu report doesn’t offer anything in terms of display size, however the resolution was pegged at 1440 x 810. That would be up from 1280 x 720. Remaining highlights include 16GB of internal storage, NVIDIA GeForce (Kepler) graphics and a VGA quality front facing camera.

The remaining detail was in regards to the version of Android. The report lists the handheld as running Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat. All said and done it looks like the SHIELD 2 could be a nice follow up device. Of course, that is assuming these specs are accurate and nothing changes before an official announcement.

The one question we have is in regards to display size and battery. The current SHIELD is 5-inches (720p) with a 7350 mAh battery. We are hoping the display size stays close to the same 5-inches, as opposed to getting larger. The current system is a decent enough size to carry around, and given the easy connection to a larger external display — it seems 5-inches may be a sweet spot.
