NVIDIA has apparently confirmed that some versions of the Samsung Galaxy S II will indeed ship with its Tegra 2 dual-core chipset, while other versions will use Samsung’s own Exynos processor. The company told ITProPortal of the (partial) design win, and while explanations as to the doubled supply haven’t been forthcoming, it’s assumed that Samsung’s production line isn’t quite up to manufacturing the sheer number of chips required.

Interestingly, at least one retailer has said that it still doesn’t know which version of the Galaxy S II it will be receiving, claiming Samsung is yet to confirm the chip difference to them. Performance from the two models should be in line with each other, though, so we’re guessing this is a temporary victory for NVIDIA while Samsung ramps up its factories.
