It appears that Notion Ink is definitely still pushing the Adam tablet regardless of their deep drop-off in coverage since the launch of the device. Incase you do not know, Notion Ink is basically a startup company that launched an Android tablet a few months ago, blogging their way through the process of creating it all the way from nearly the beginning of the process up to the day of pre-releases. They began blogging in April of 2009, and now that the tablet is out, the updates have come with much more space in between than ever before. This weekend came a post that noted feature updates coming to the tablet soon as well as an official release of a program dealing with the tablet in Bangalore.

What Rohan Shravan, the main dude in charge of making sure you know all about Notion Ink and their Adam tablet, is promising soon is a more synchronized, more clean, and more useful tablet update. One of these updates includes the Book Promise – this would have been out sooner, says Shravan, but their licensing agreements took longer than they expected. A similar situation went on back around CES 2010 when the device was supposed to be handed out to reviewers – this did not happen, said Shravan then, again because of licensing agreements being delayed and FCC regulations taking longer than expected.

Shravan launches into a written-word poetry session with the following:

Content. There is one thing which drives every human sub-consciously (assuming necessities like food and shelter are not in the way), and that is Recognition. It is something which forces us to test our limits, take risks, be creative and bold. Ever since computing was accelerated in world war II (when people realized the need of automation when it comes to simple calculation and decisions) our lives have been made easier. And today here we are, a generation with completely different reasons for using computers.

Eventually Shravan gets to noting that Notion Ink will be starting a project that ties together contributors from “colleges, clubs, various groups and, from diverse fields.” This project, says Shravan, will create in the end a mature “front and back end” system that’ll be a scalable model “optimized for the goal and comprehensive enough to cover a majority of creative domains.” What does that mean? No idea. Maybe a social networking system that works off and online with coupons and whatnot. Here’s perhaps hoping for the best!

  1. Would have been nice if you highlighted the severe support and QA issues with their company/product. Visit their official (useless from a support perspective) support site http://conclave.notionink.com to see for yourself. It’s team the larger media started taking notice.

  2. NI is a big failure period. I serious am thinking Rohan is delusional or has mental issues. His writing doesn’t even make sense, why would you put it out there if the idea is not well formed.

“Ever since computing was accelerated in world war II (when people realized the need of automation when it comes to simple calculation and decisions) our lives have been made easier.”

WTF, its like people never realized the needed automation before World War II. Are guys really taking this joker Rohan seriously. The dude needs to take adderall so he can concentrate on one thing. Refunding the people who got the seriously bad ADAM.

  3. The Adam had great potential…but theses so called “software” issues are driving even the most die hard fans away. Lucky you are to have an Adam that fully works as expected. I for one am still waiting for support to get back to me with an update “that works”, or an RMA number. Until then I’m playing with an iPad2, and when it comes to HD playback (indoors) all I can say is WOW! The screen blows the Adam out of the water! Loading said content on the iPad2 is another story….
With the Adam I can plug it into my computer and drag the files over (and most will play). Plug in a USB drive and away you go! I need to buy an app or two for the iPad2 and convert the files or something of the sort…
My big gripes about the iPad2 are: No native SMS support, no flash, no USB, no expandable memory, no Bluetooth HID, no back button, and the camera quality are less than stellar. Other than that “it just works”….
My big gripes about my Adam is the my GPS will not lock onto satellites, and my Bluetooth is barely functioning, and the camera not worth using. (these issues are hopefully not typical of all Adams and only affect an unknown percentage of Adam tablets that were manufactured before NI fired the production company) So far the Adam looks wonderful on paper….as a $600 paperweight! If you are interested in an Adam…wait for Honeycomb and the hardware to be reworked.

    • Sorry to hear that you have some problems with your Adam. I have been using mine for for the last couple of months and it has been good so far. Do wish the Honeycomb issue would get resolved though.

      • It’s good to hear someone has a working Adam. I am rather happy with the Adam as a concept. It is too bad that I happened to end up with one from a “bad batch”. The kernel just got leaked so that should help out the custom ROM development. I can wait for a GPS fix, but the Bluetooth is really bothering me. For some reason my phone application will not function over 3G. The developer is looking into it but they feel that it’s likely an issue with the Adam and not their software. As a workaround I could tether the Adam to my phone over Bluetooth or USB (Wi-Fi would decimate my phones battery) but those options don’t work at this time (even though a support rep told me they did…)
I can’t wait for Honeycomb….oh the sweet sweet taste of pure Honeycomb!

    • Most android devices will have the positives you’ve listed about Adam, as for the screen the reason the ipad is so nice is because it has an IPS screen, Xoom and transformer will both have one, along with Honeycomb, they’ll also both have GPS, bluetooth, wifi, usb and sd expansion… there simply is no reason to even take NI seriously…

  4. I waited a year for the Adam… luckily I wasn’t one of the “elite” fanboys chosen to be allowed to give these retards my hard earned cash… Thankfully… Look on ebay you’ll find it’s got plenty of “the finest technology India ever crapped out”, those rabid adamites quickly put them up for sale when they realized they’d waited a year for a steamy loaf of poo… they had to auction them… it’s not like you can send it back! Hehehe…. So for giggles I put the Adam rom on my g-tab… seriously? you pushed back how many times for “Eden” tweaks??? This was the worst tweaked version of android I’d ever seen, somehow even worse that the viewsonic “tapNcrap” ROM.. Garbage… absolute garbage, how you could take the vanilla android experience and manage to twist to that level of complete lameness is beyond me… It’s as if they made a concerted effort to make the worst OS available.

Rohan Shravan needs to be thankful their still in business and let someone who doesn’t offend with blatant stupidity take the reigns. He’d be doing the company a big favor by hiring someone that can speak coherently to take over.

I’ll personally be buying the transformer, and while I’m sure the release date will be pushed back a bit in the US… I’m 100% certain they won’t make me wait a year, push release dates back 4 months, join a stupid blog to get one, take my money, then make me wait another 3 months to get it, only to have to send it back because the hardware doesn’t work… then only to get it back and realize it still REALLY sucks… so sell it on ebay…

  5. i am also done with notion ink. i am currently trying to sell my adam on ebay,
i am having the standard issues of various hardware components not working. no warranty service offered, no return option, just a bareky working tablet. looks like india is just copying the chinese ipad knockoffs except putting the hardware in a much uglier package

    • I re-read my post below and realized that it was pretty insensitive to users left with broken Adam’s and no recourse for support. Apologizes for being harsh, I’ve just been very disgusted with how Notion Ink has treated both those that followed with anticipation only to be shut out, and more-so those that managed to wait a year, get pushed-back, charged only to have to wait MORE, only to then finally receive their devices and have it broken/non-functional… THEN as a final slap in the face turn their back on customers leaving them no return/recourse.

I can’t understand NI’s logic or the audacity to treat their customers that way then post some incoherent ramblings about how great the product is…

It’s even more sickening to me how badly their user community and NI themselves sold and touted this thing as the best freaking tablet ever… only to then produce such a piece of crap and expect people to accept it… It’s just really quite unrealistic on NI’s part.

I’m still wondering how there hasn’t been some kind of class action lawsuit…

      • Agreed 100%, as for their user community, I’ve never seen such a blind, dare I say naive? devotion to a product that 90% of them had never held or seen in person… Somebody in another forum posted something about blind national pride, thats a pretty good description.

Just because it’s a small Indian startup doesn’t mean you have to support them because their an underdog… you support them because they treat their customers right, because they have a good product… Neither of which applies to NI…

      • Since when India is famous for good customer service and high quality products? Just look how they treat 300 million untouchables: Dalits and other lower casts.

  6. What else can you expect from an Indian circus? I think the best thing they can do now is to pack up and join bollywood where the rest of the big circus is………do bangra…. that’s all you can manage!

  7. All of you are spitting up in the sky…NI never said buy Adam..I bought one, its not what i though i will get, end of story..grow up..

    • I don’t even understand what your saying, “spitting up in the sky”? This is like the incoherent ramblings of that “Rohan” guy… Gotta love adamites… and actually your wrong, NI told us to buy Adam for over a year but failed to give anyone the opportunity to do so (dumbest business plan ever) and put us all through quite a stupid spectacle watching “Rohan” incoherently spew out excuses and push back dates… the general public STILL can’t buy an adam, not that anyone would want to now…. along with the rabit user community chanting to buy the adam popping up like you have here to champion the device and thumbs down anything remotely negative about the device….

    • Whats funny is that this guy is telling you to “grow up”… just accept the fact that NI basically lied and took every one’s money… Why are you complaining? It’s not like they did anything wrong here? Right Androja?

Androja, there is a reason sites like these are now online http://www.notioninkscam.com/

I think your the one that needs to grow up and understand that these types of business practices are completely unacceptable and should be dealt with.

    •  /Totally uneccessaey comment. FYI info Inida is way better compared to those filthy bedouins from Arabia ( Which I hope you hail from). Atleast we don’t sent women who get raped to the gallows or straps kids to camels and send them across the desert in the name of entertainment.

    • person like u can never think other than these things…….and that is y india still having facing problem. Tell me the one reason why u wanna discuss this dalit thing when this topic is all about a young indian who try to do something nice and diffrent. The technology he used in his device is better then apple ipad in some fields.
Stop this non sense and try to change ur narrow thinking.

  13. This is typical of companies in India. They over promise but can’t deliver. Trust me on this one. i’ve worked with 4 Indian companies from india before. they’re all talk.

  14. I think NI is hardly go out of business because the cost to maintain the company is very low. NI doesn’t need to spend money on advertisement because NI’s die hard fans are doing whatever they can to promo this company. NI will not make any order from the China’s Manufacture until they got the money from the customer, so they won’t get any trouble on funding. NI doesn’t need to spend money on improving their OS because the community of tabletrom are providing this professional service for free. Also, they don’t need to spend money on customer service since they won’t reply to their customer email even their Adam is DOA or broken within a month. If the CEO run out of money, he just need to make a blog post and say something beautiful, such as “oh Honey comb will be ready soon” or “Ice cream Sandwich will be ready next month….etc” , then some people will fall in the trap, and he got a good pocket money again. So I don’t think NI will be out of business soon unless they got a law suit from the customers or other company.
