Last week we learned a lot about Nokia and their Android aspirations, confirming they had a few Android Lumia smartphone prototypes in the works. Today though news has arrived that they weren’t just working on a couple of prototypes, but actually have over 10,000 Android smartphones codenamed “Mountain View” already built. Which was set to be a budget-friendly Android smartphone and a plan B for if (when) Windows Phone didn’t pan out.

Now the downright beautiful and sexy device you see above is fake, and only a fan-made render, but the idea of a Lumia 1020 or similar smartphone running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean sure sounds amazing. Originally we thought this was wishful thinking, and any hopes or dreams of an Android smartphone seemed to fade once we learned Microsoft bought the entire company.

Nokia is soon to be owned by Microsoft. And with that you can essentially put to rest any chance that we’ll ever see an Android smartphone launched by Nokia. However, if for some unforeseen reason this deal falls through, and Nokia doesn’t get snatched up my Microsoft, their original plan could kick into action and they’ll launch an Android device.

The report goes on to state Nokia’s Beijing R&D team is still in fact working on their Android smartphone, and over 10,000 have been manufactured already by Foxconn, with more still on the production lines. The device is rumored to have a dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, but that’s about all the details that have been revealed on the handset thus far.

If the deal doesn’t go through, this device which is in the advanced stages of development could actually see the light of day. Hey, maybe one day we’ll see a launch of 20,000 or so Limited Google Play edition Nokia smartphones. That would be pretty awesome. We’ll see.

  1. let’s say they manage to sell it before owned bye Microsoft I wont buy it at all thats just buying an end of life and supports phone

  2. Microsoft is NOT buying Nokia, it is buying Nokia’s phone business. The deal sets a time limit after which Nokia could start manufacturing smart phones again – with any OS they choose.

  3. My friend have a Nokia N9 and it runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. 🙂 But the experience is laggy considering the hardware of the N9.
