A few news articles are touting that Google Glass is available to all today, effectively ending the Explorer beta program and opening up the world of Glass to anyone. Clicking a specific link gave access to the Glass order page from their April 15 sale, but the Glass home page yields a different experience. We’ve reached out to Google, and have the official story.

We can confirm that Glass is absolutely NOT available for anyone who wants it just yet. Google tells us the link users are clicking is one that has gone unedited since the April 15 sale, and those who clicked the link are not able to order Glass just as they would have a little over a week ago.

This link will soon go dormant from the Glass home page, which was what initially tipped us to there being a website issue. Clarifying the issue, Google had the following to offer us:

This link was created to accommodate potential Explorers who were still in the pipeline from last week’s sale. We’re shutting it down shortly. As always, we will continue to experiment with ways to expand the Explorer program in the weeks and months ahead.

There you go, everyone. Glass is not available for mass consumption. It was simply a matter of someone clicking a bookmarked link that was left unattended by Google. We’re not sure if any orders have shipped, or if anyone has been charged, but Google assures us those not “in the pipeline” won’t be getting Glass. Feel free to return to your Thursday routine.
