This is the first over the air update to Nexus S and it’s coming in just SIX DAYS after its initial release. This update brings the system up to version GRH78 and contains several important bug fixes and the latest version of maps. If you’d like to wait for the update like a Patient Patty you can do so, but if you’d like to get the update directly from Google right this moment, follow the instructions below.

Before you start, note that this update has given some people the dreaded “Error Status 7” error, so watch out for that. If it works for you, or gives this same error, please let us know!

1. Download the file you’ll need directly from Google right here

2. Rename it to update.zip and put it on the root of your internal storage.

3. Shut your phone down and reboot into bootloader by simply holding volume up and powering on.

4. Use your volume buttons to choose “recovery” from the list that’ll pop up and select it using your power button.

5. When the red triangle appears, press volume up and power together one more time and a list of options will show up, allowing you to choose “update.”

6. Head on over to our forums or feel free to comment here once you’ve done all this fun stuff and are finding out what’s up with the new system. Candy? Let us know!

Thanks Jake!

  1. The update didn’t come to my phone OTA, so I downloaded and flashed the zip. Seems to have gone fine.

DrAllReeds – no, this is for Nexus S with Gingerbread only!

mmalakai10 – it’s an issue with T-Mobile. Their servers don’t recognize the phone (yet)…should resolve itself eventually. Call them and complain.

  2. When Nexus S will be in Stores in South Korea?
I want to buy it in South Korea…

Anybody know any info? Please convey here…………..

  3. ok so we got the update. does anyone know what is in the update? bug fixes? what bug fixes? it would be nice to know what was fixed/added/removed. Anyone?

  4. got my OTA update about a few hours ago. Went fine…the 3D updates to Maps was nice…i was hoping some update to GoogleTalk/Voice that uses the front facing camera to be there in this update.

  5. I got the Status 7 error. It doesn’t mess up anything; I just reboot and continue using 2.3.1, but it doesn’t unpack and install.

What’s the deal with this error?

Running Nexus S rooted/unlocked with stock recovery (after removing clockworkmod).

  6. Actually I just fixed my own “Status 7” problem and successfully updated to 2.3.2.

Looks like during the update it will check system files and display that error if they’re modified. I had modified the /system/build.prop file and when I restored the original it just worked.
Also, the update seems to have removed my root as well.

Hope this helps somebody out there.
