While we’re still waiting for the fulfillment of the promise that the Nexus 6 is “coming soon” to Verizon but a new rumor has already started that it’s not just the latest Google-powered Motorola-made phone that will be available to the carrier’s subscribers. Yes, the Nexus 6 will still be coming, but it will be with a brand new Android 5.1, which means it will be the first device to have the latest update to Lollipop, if the rumors are to be believed.

And having Android 5.1 means that the smartphone will be able to make and receive Voice over LTE (VoLTE) calls because of its “Enhanced 4G LTE Mode”. The Nexus 6 will reportedly be having the Verizon branding under the “n” in Nexus, which will not look all that great if you don’t like showing the world your carrier, but hey, that’s what we get for getting a phone for free (or discounted at least).

While Verizon has not officially made the announcement yet, we do know that a Nexus 6, whether with Android 5.0 or 5.1, will definitely arrive sometime soon, since they still have a promo video for the smartphone on their YouTube channel. Unless they’re just really hoping that Motorola and Google will come to them by unofficially promoting the Nexus 6, then Verizon will probably be bringing the smartphone to their network.

But aside from the fact that the availability of the Nexus 6, which always becomes out of stock, will expand with their addition to Verizon’s options, the other good news is that we will be having an Android Lollipop update soon enough. Well, at least for those who’ve already had their device running on Android 5.0. Some of us are still waiting to be Lollipop-ized.

  1. While it’s nice that it is officially coming to verizon it’s a bit late and most will wait on the S4 or HTC One updates.
