Next mintpad may use Android

27 July 2009 by Shane McGlaun

Android has lots of potential for many different types of devices in the consumer electronics market. The OS is big on smartphones and is being eyed for use in netbooks as well as home automation devices and music players.

Reports are coming in today that the next mintpad from mintpass, a multimedia tablet device, may use Android rather than Windows CE. The original device had a smallish 2.9-inch screen and a plastic body. The new device is said to have a metal body and a larger screen.

The new version is also expected to have WiBro and GPS as well. Those familiar with the project say Android is being considered, but is not set in stone at this time.

  1. It'd be nice to see a 5" or 7" screen, physical keyboard, and a US GSM/WCDMA version (as opposed to WiBro). Or at least a WiMAX version.
