The whole Android community will definitely benefit from the F-Droid. It’s repository-based app catalogue where open source apps are located and stored for many different purposes. The information was shared over on Reddit by developer ‘mvdan’ who thought that this catalogue will be a great tool for everyone. F-Droid has been updated and is now ready for release.

You can do a number of things with F-Droid. Aside from being home to open and free apps, you can rework the privileged installer and use an extension as a privileged app. Feel free to add support for free Certificate Authorities: cert.startcom.org and letsencrypt.org and Add option to prompt for unstable updates. There’s a new night theme available too. Some issues and bugs like when trying to install apps or downloading from HTTP services have been fixed.

Material Design elements are very noticeable. The developer has added StrictMode when debugging build and switch to Weblate for more reliable translations, some of which have also been updated. You are free to make the GitLab CI run the tests in an emulator or use gradle-witness to ensure the build’s reproducibility with libraries pulled from maven repositories as described by the F-Droid developer.

F-Droid is a special client that makes it easy to browser install, and see regular updates for your apps. It is an installable catalogue of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) applications only for the Android market.
