Today the parent company to MTV, Viacom, has just launched a few new applications that deliver some pretty great features to those enjoy iOS devices like the iPhone. MTV, MTV2, and more have all been updated with full video-streaming capabilities, sneak peak previews and more. They have apps already on both iOS and Android, but just got improved. Sadly the Android versions will have to wait.

So basically, once again Android is getting put in the back seat while they cater to iOS. Something that was popular in the past but shouldn’t be now that Android is the number one mobile OS, and showing zero signs of slowing down. Lately many game publishers are releasing apps simultaneously on both platforms, and we wish others would follow suite.

The company has multiple apps for both iOS and Android, but over here in Googleville we’ll be waiting for full episode streaming “later this year”. They don’t even give a remote timeframe for when we can expect similar apps to arrive for Android. They’ve all been updated and are available today for iOS, but nothing for us. Sorry guys!

MTV has multiple Android apps readily available today for all the latest MTV News, music, photos, Dora the Explorer and more, but no live-video like iOS. The new app lets users stream select episodes of Awkward and many more shows in full, right on their iOS device of choice.

According to the folks at CNET, Viacom will be releasing apps for Android and Xbox later this year, but that’s all the details we have. I guess I’ll have to wait a bit longer before I can stream Ridiculousness or Beavis and Butt-head to my Galaxy S 4.

  1. According to articles I’ve seen on both android and apple sites, IOS users tend to use their phone to watch content more than their android counterparts, despite the smaller screen they have to deal with. I’d guess this is the reason Viacom decided to do what they did, but who knows?
