We already know that European retailer Carphone Warehouse has clinched the exclusive on the Motorola XOOM 3G, but it seems PC World has snatched up the WiFi-only version of the Android 3.0 Honeycomb slate. The retailer is advertising pre-orders for the XOOM WiFi, priced at £449.99 ($734).

However, it doesn’t seem that you can actually pre-order the slate yet, and there’s no sign of a release date. Carphone Warehouse has previously suggested the UK XOOM 3G will arrive in April 2011, but that’s not to say the WiFi-only version will drop at exactly the same time.

  1. Crazy! Definitely over-priced.

Considering how quickly Android devices depreciate in value, it would be stupid to pay that much for WiFi only. Google will be rushing out Android 3.1 soon to get phones onto the same level so this tablet will be quickly surpassed by better and cheaper alternatives.

If the soon to be launched Galaxy Tab 10.1 is significantly cheaper then everyone will flock to that instead.

    • yep, you are right. We shouldn’t buy anything. . . ever because there will be something better in a few months.

Sick of hearing that statement! You buy a device that will last and anything with a Tegra 2 in it will last for some time, especially since it is handling direct ports of PC/console games. Sure, the Tegra 3 is coming and so are many other great chips. The point is, will the device work as a great mobile tablet for some time to come? Yes, it will! If you want a cheaper price, buy a cheaper tablet or wait till these drop in price, but then you will be buying “outdated tech” as you put it. Welcome to tech evolution in the mobile space!

Or purchase an Apple product and delude yourself that it is still “the top of the line” because they only refresh every year.

  2. This XOOM WiFi is unique, but I think you have set a high price for this stuff. Costumers will be excited with this, but never for the price. This XOOM WiFi is durable and long lasting but it was too expensive.
