Motorola is no longer the powerhouse in the mobile phone world that it was when its Razr handset was the device to have. The company has found that making a handset that consumers want and desire today is more complicated than it was in the past.

To help get back to popularity with users Motorola is set to embrace Android as its OS for smartphones and is seeking out Android developers. Motorola knows that the way to the heart of mobile users today is through slick and useful apps for their handsets.

Motorola wants to help content creators distribute their apps through the Android Market and wants to preload some apps on its Android-powered phones. Motorola is one of the firms that will be among the promised 18 new Android devices coming this year, despite the fact that it has no Android devices on the market at this time.
