Starting today and going until March 4th, those who opt to purchase one of the many different smartphones currently available from the guys at Motorola will get a nice little gift in return. For eligible smartphones, after purchase users will get a free $50 gift card for the Google Play Store. With many new smartphones on the horizon it appears that Motorola is trying to steal a few more sales real quick.

Basically what we have here is a simple mail-in-rebate. Yup, you’ll have to take the old-school method of filling out and mailing in a rebate form from Motorola, but in return you’ll receive $50 to enjoy in the Play Store. You can rent movies, buy books, music, or anything else from the nearly 700,000 apps available for Android.

With HTC having a big couple of weeks, rumors of Samsung announcing their Galaxy S IV on March 14th, Motorola’s been pretty silent. We have reports that their planning a “game-changer” with Google but that won’t be unveiled until May. This looks like Motorola’s way of grabbing some attention and additional sales before everyone starts jumping at this new wave of upcoming smartphones.
