Today is sure the day of updates, and although they may not be to 2.3 (that’s coming later) we are sure seeing quite a bit of general updates being released. Following the trend, the Motorola DROID X has just been updated to 2.3.340 bringing in some new enhancements and improvements.

One of the biggest features of this update is that Madden 2011, which appears to be a DROID X exclusive, will be coming preloaded. However, it seems that it might not be the full version of the game and only a trial, but for those who have been waiting, even a little bit is enough for now.

Also included is improved Android 2.2 stability, Enhanced Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, Visual Voice Mail, and other bugs and issues have been fixed. For the rest of the changes you can check out the support page here.

Note:Although the update is listed as 2.3.340, it is not Android 2.3 and just a system version.

  1. Who cares about Madden, jesus fucking christ. Get the god damn activesync functioning properly instead of giving us more bloatware on these phones.

Motorola sucks, Droid, Droid2, DroidX, DroidPro all have issues connecting to an exchange environment, BUYER BEWARE

  2. I agree with the 2nd comment! My Droid X is awesome and I even had an iPhone before it and yes it’s different (because of the OS) but a lot feels exactly the same and BETTER in most aspects!

  3. am I the only one that’s noticed the vibration on my droid has changed since the update? or maybe I dropped it… but it sounds a lot different now

    • My vibrate settings don’t even work tight now since the update.  I now can only set the incomming calls and notifications to vibrate (using the volume rocker).  I would have to go in and turn off media sound, and set alarms to vibrate.  Under 2.2 there was an icon wich was a squiggle net to an cell phone.  Now the only vibrate icon I get is three squigglys.  How weid is this?

      Feel free to respond back.

  4. I noticed the same thing about vibration changing! It sounds longer and slightly stronger now. I’m glad I’m not the only one.

  5. I noticed the vibration change also. It’ll take a bit to get used to but it does seem longer stronger and higher pitched. haha 😛

  6. We have over 65 Droid users in our environment and all connect to our Exchange server with no issues at all. Love them!

BUT – with this newest update, one user has reported that now, if you have VIBRATE set to Always or Only in Silent Mode, then when you use the Volume buttons on the side of the device, you no longer have a SILENT feature when going down to the lowest setting. Versus if you have VIBRATE set to NEVER or Only when NOT in Silent Mode, then you don’t get the VIBRATE option when using the buttons to the lowest setting.

He claims that before the update, he could push the DOWN VOLUME button and after lowering the sound all the way down it would go to Vibrate and THEN also a silent option.

  7. I’m peeved at Madden 11 rooted on my phone. I don’t really mind bloatware .. as long as I can uninstall it. Useless app, can’t delete, pissed off.

  8. J is right. He’s probably speak of Exchange 2010 which prior to SP1 had no issues. I’m a Microsoft Partner and have been working with Exchange since 4.0. Microsoft knows about the ActiveSync issue with Froyo 2.2 and Exchange 2010 SP1. They state it’s an Android issue, but my feelings are that it worked before SP1. Prior versions of Exchange don’t have this issue. There is something Microsoft did in Exchange 2010 SP1 regarding ActiveSync authentication. I will be testing with 2.2.1 (2.3.340 build).

  9. Don’t get me wrong, I own the Droid X and want to get the Exchange ActiveSync issues resolved as well. Smart-phones are for both the business and consumer minded. Touchdown by Nitrodesk is a solution for those of you having the ActiveSync issue. Well worth the $20 spent.

  10. THERE ARE A COUPLE THINGS NOT BEING MENTIONED. DO I STILL HAVE THE 7 SCREENS TO SWIPE THRU FOR ICONS LIKE I HAVE IN 2.2. ALSO HAVE THEY INSTALLED SILVER LITE SO YOU CAN WATCH NETFLIX, AND THIRD THERE IS STILL NO ZOOM IN VIDIO CAMERA MODE. DID THEY CORRECT THAT ON THE 2.3 UPDATE. ALSO IF AN ADULT HAS THE PHONE, THERE SHOULD BE A WAY THEY CAN GO TO VERIZON AND HAVE ADULT APPS UNLOCKED SO YOU CAN GET THEM. THEY KEEP SAYING APPLE DOES NOT HAVE ADULT MATERIAL, WELL WITH 2.1 I DID AND IT WORKED. AFTER 2.2 I GET CANT PLAY VIDIO. I HOPE THAT IS CORRECTED IN 2.3. HOWEVER THEY SHOULD INSTALL A ADULT FILTER THAT THE STORE CAN SET TO AUTHORIZE AN ADULT OWNER TO DOWNLOAD APPS UNDER AN ADULT SEARCH. MY APPS ARE FULL PORN.

  11. Any one having any trouble running the Madden 11 demo? I try to load it and it kicks me back out to the home screen. I am rooted but that’s not an issue for anyone else I know…I’m also running LiveHome…could that be an issue?

  12. Drives me absolutely mad that Motorola seems to think that everyone wants crap on the phone that you cant get rid of rather then fixing the damn real issues. If I wanted to try madden out I’d download it from the market. Put it where it belongs or allow us to remove this junk from the phone.

I realize the new “madden game” is only a 32kb link to the download, but its completely wrong to not be able to uninstall what your not going to use.
I understand that with every update they have to pay the guys who make it possible and thus add one more stupid bloat software, first we went with an update that added amazon mp3, block buster, city id , and VZ navigator…. But really, come on now.

Pretty sure we will all be having pre-mature motor wear due to the new super vibrate. Crossing my fingers it doesnt wear it out too fast.

On a lighter note, does seem to run faster.

  13. All those complaining about Exchange functionality need to just cave in and purchase Touchdown for Android. I’ve been using that ever since the Droid released because the Exchange functionality is flakey.

So quit your bitchin’ and just buy an app to fix the problem. If you keep thinking Android will fix the issue, you’re mistaken. There’s a reason they’re allowing an independent developer to code for their phone OS.

  14. I *BOUGHT* the phone. I *BUY* the service. Now fuck off and let ME decide what apps I want on my phone. If you love Madden and Blockbuster so damn much then buy a million copies yourself and jerk off to them every night.

  15. Motorola completely screwed the pooch on the Froyo update. (Is it really that hard to sort text messages correctly and have the OS actually delete the one you tell it to? REALLY?) And apparently the answer to why it took the jerks MONTHS to roll out a couple simple fixes is because… wait for it… here it comes… MANDATORY MADDEN was a higher freaking priority??? Are you kidding me?????

So here’s the real question… does build 2.3.340 even work, or is it just going to fuck my phone even harder than the Froyo rollout did? (Which, by the way, also required a complete default of my phone after updating. Nice going, guys.)

  16. The Droid X has worked in every single environment that I have tried it on. The problem is that with some environments it does not work by default and does require an inordinate amount of configurations to get working properly again.

This is unfortunately all un-done within a matter of seconds with updates like this. With a rooted DX, has anyone been experiencing any issues with root access as well as anything else?

If the phone is rooted, then you can remove whatever you want, which is what I will do when I want to remove Madden, although it will have to be replaced in order to perform any future upgrades.

  17. I too am pissed off. I just (without thinking) allowed Verizon to install an Android update on my Droid X last night and I WISH I HADN’T.

It has slowed my machine down. The keyboard touch feedback has changed, the keyboard has slowed down and can’t keep up with me when I’m texting, and I am not fast.

I didn’t and still don’t want Madden, nor any of the other crap that they pushed out on my machine, including some of the originally installed apps that I can’t uninstall.

I had a perfectly good working Droid X and I was perfectly happy with it. It was a good phone, good for texting, good for internet and good with my Outlook Sync. Now it sucks.

I will be at my Verizon store tomorrow.

    Rock

  18. I TOTALLY agree- stop the fucking bloatware!!

If we want this crap on our phones, it is just a click away- quit forcing it down our throats!!!!!

  19. You guys are such cry babys. Yes the new update toke up some space scroll threw your apps and remove the ones you don’t want. Also exchange works fine, ever think its your phone and not the program. All in all I like the new update and I removed everything I don’t need from the update.

    Cry babys

  20. My Droid X is awesome. Note to Idiots get BlackBerry for email and don’t worry about Madden. I use my phone for business and I don’t have any issues. Ignore the BS apps. Go to Vegas and loosen up.

  21. I used to love my droidx, now since the Dec update I hate it. Slowed internet way way down. This really sucks since this update was forced on me. This is not the service I originally purchased.

  22. My phone has been rebooting at random times quite frequently since the update. It never did this before and I have not installed anything since.the update. I am a little irritated. Anyone else noticed this?

    • it does this because when they designed android 2.2 the installed a built in talk killer but its retarded because the way it works is when the know is overloaded and is out of memory the phone shuts down and you loose everything. and the update also made advanced task killer and related apps ineffective on android 2.2.

  23. Are you fucking kiddingme. I hate f…football. I will be junking mu hacked droid folks. This app snoops your phone. Do Not be fooled by this.

  24. I agree with the “Note the assholes…..” guy. Well said. I still love my droid even though there is bloat and other crap. I understand Verizon is out to make MONEY but I hope they get their head out of there ass before I becomes a bigger problem.

  25. I just got my droid x 2 days ago. The update hit last night and I woke up to find the madden icon. I scolded my kids for browsing the app store and downloading, and they denied vehemently. But I digress.

Last night I was cruising on wifi. Today, it’s not working. I had it simply picking up my home network automatically. Today, everytime I went into settings and forced the connection, it would obtain ID and connect, but there was no browsing. It was connecting to the access point but no internet. After hours of playing I found that turning airplane mode ‘on’, then connecting worked. I assume this shuts down the 3G, and that’s why it works.

But, I’m really pissed that before the update, everything was fine. switched 3g to wifi and back automatically, no problems either way. Anyone else experience this? Does anyone know anything that I should know?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  26. oh lucky me, I knew some shit like this would happen so I didn’t hit the install button, instead I hit the install later every 12 hours the shit pops up. Still at 2.2 thanks god. Wish y’all luck with your future droid.
