Verizon and Motorola’s extremely popular DROID RAZR is still awaiting the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. We’ve seen multiple leaks, as well as various reports that the update would be coming soon. Remember the last one? CNET “confirmed” the update would arrive today June 12th, but sadly that didn’t pan out. Today Verizon has confirmed that it’s no where in our immediate future.

Best Buy seemed to know the update was coming in late May too and that never happened. So either Verizon keeps pulling and changing the update or things are just not going as planned for big red and Motorola. Today Verizon has confirmed on Twitter that the update would not be arriving today for the RAZR and RAZR MAXX, and that they have no date to announce at this time. Meaning it’s still at least a few weeks or longer away.

Just as Verizon states, details will be on Verizon.com/support once made available and that usually means the update is a matter of days away. As soon as we see any support documents show up we’ll be sure and let everyone know. For now feel free to try some of the leaks linked to below if you don’t want to wait.

  1. Thats because they are spending all there time on the new pricing plan. From what I understand the new pricing plan goes into affect on the 1st of July. I am betting that Verizon will hold off to the very last minute. Because when they upgrade there will be some publicity that will make people want to go out and get a phone upgrade. If the new plan is in place they will have to go to the new pricing plan and lose unlimited data.

    • Unlimited data is already gone (exept if your an old verizion customer) so they can’t get rid of anything they don’t have.

  2. I swear to God I’m leaving Verizon and Motorola after this. CNET posted a completely baseless and unfounded rumor regarding the release date for an upgrade for a phone that works perfectly awesome anyways, and VZW and Moto didn’t adhere to it and didn’t even have the decency to let me know they weren’t going to adhere to what somebody at CNET made up on the spot. This is typical both of them, and I’m sick of being treated like this because I’m a petulant customer. I blame the executive management at Verizon, because they clearly are the ones who did all this, because the new Shared plans Verizon announced today cost more than my existing personal line, but are cheaper than the 4 lines my family has if I combine them into one bill, and they obviously made CNET post the article about this so everyone would think they had to upgrade to these plans to get the new release. I can’t tolerate this BS anymore. Apple is a better company because they always follow the release dates CNET authors make up.

  3. Well this phone is going back and my plan back to Sprint. I’ll gladly pay the fee to have a carrier who doesnt sell me political BS. If they wont keep their promises I see no reason to keep mine. Awesome fail verizon, I dont see a verizon bill in my immediate future or a data cap on a FCC 4G band your not legally allowed to limit.

    • I’m so with you. When CNET authors make up release dates for upgrades, that’s totally a promise by Verizon and Motorola to the consumer. We should all rebel because Verizon and Motorola didn’t adhere to what the CNET article said they were going to do. Stick it to the man!

      • Thnx, plus the MAXX has a sim card so I can root, install ICS and change carriers. Adios F%¢£ wads!

      • You are a complete idiot vin…CNET has absolutely NOTHING to do with ICS…do you get mad at the mail man for bringing you bills in the mail? Yeah, they n(CNET) f’ed up, but keep your eye on the ball…who’s worse? CNET for printing an (obviously) unconfirmed rumor, or us for believing it? I’m pissed off too, but we should be mad at big red for delaying this update from the very beginning…

    • 4G LTE data is not deducted from your data plan.. Only 3G data and have fun on Sprint that network has gone to trash, and Network Vision hasn’t helped. I recently switched to Verizon because Sprint terminated my plan apparently I was using “excessive amounts of data.” Hmmmm. Truly Unlimited huh?

  4. I’m anxious about ICS too but when I didn’t get the update last month I refuse to listen to anyone unless its from Verizon or motorola..

  5. Yea I’m a valued customer with big red for years & grandfathered in with the unlimited data, once my contract is up, then I will have to go to the new data plans. Idk what’s up wit Red but with all this getting people hopes up then smashimg them is sick. I know Red didn’t put this out about ICS but I bet managment knew about it. & its a very dishonest thing not to inform your customers, they wait on the day of to address the issue. I guess when your a billion $ Co they have the rite 2 leave us out n the cold, even though our phone bills & phones already cost more. Since when is a new phone with 2 year activation $299, & only Red is doin this + the tiered plans smh

  6. Well, my company just bought me a razr maxx based on info from the Corporate Verizon Rep that ICS would be available today. Sent an email to the Rep asking him where he wanted the phone mailed since Verizon backed out.

  7. You all are retarded if you leave. Your maxx is awesome go to some other carrier and be tethered to the wall cuz your phone dies every two hours. Who knows maybe google is putting their final touches on ics because THEY BOUGHT MOTOROLA! idiots

  8. Gave up my iPhone4S for the Razr Maxx for battery life, bigger screen, and ics. Of course, I was supposed to get ics years ago. Never again will I ever buy another Moto product. My phone has had to be reset so many times and has locked up countless times. Back to Apple when iPhone5 hits. How pathetic to promise ics to customers who purchase the razr and razr maxx, and still no update. False advertising!!! I will never look back.

  9. This is truly sad. . .mad at CNET plus Verizon and Motorola!! I like Droid Razr itself but the update should have been available earlier. . . rumors should be confirmed by the companies so people dont have to get thier hopes up. This causes people to hate companies

    • Motorola had it on their website showing the date for the update, 6/12, and nothing, we are SUCKERS! I’m done listening to the media about the updates, I will believe it when it is actually on my phone.

  10. listen people its real easy ….if verizon or any maker dose not release the info its not true dont get your hopes up everyone here must be new to the whole tech thing

  11. It’s always been aknown game that every forum/blog gets it readers by making up ship dates to get traffic to their sites!

Show me a blog or forum that ever had an accurate date for updating software on a wireless device and I’ll eat a pile of dog s***!

    It just doesn’t happen!

  12. OH MY GOD THIS IS PATHETIC, PHONES THAT NEVER CREATED HYPE OVER ICS GOT IT AND WE’RE STILL IN THE DARK?!?! A PHONE THEY BRANDED AS “MADE FOR ICS”. I AM NEVER BUYING ANOTHER MOTOROLA PHONE.

  13. It probably will never even go to ICS. I wouldn’t be shocked if VZW actually announced they change their minds with this.

    • That’s actually a horrible idea on their part. Those are essentially flagship devices, not the PoS Pantech phones they try to pass as actual devices. They’d easily lose customers if they didn’t bump the RAZR (MAXX) to 4.0.4 and beyond.

The Droid Incredible, my old phone, didn’t see updates for a long time, but it eventually happened, both for 2.2 and 2.3. So it’s not impossible, it’s just them taking a very, very long time.

  14. Maxx4maxx haha your an idiot, google and Motorola have both been done with their tweeks to the update, is just Verizon taking their sweet ass time rolling out just like they did with 4.0.4 for the galaxy nexus, KICK OUT THE LEAD BIG RED AND START ROLLING OUT!

  15. I talked to a verizon rep,… hes said android 4.0 aka ice cream sandwich is still in the developmental stage for droid razr and razr maxx,… he said we should expect it around the 3rd quater and we would be the first to receive it

  16. The delay in delivery ICS seems typical of how Motorola’s handles software: basly. The razr maxx is impressive hardware, but I could not recommend it. It has almost no documentation and it is delivered with both too many and too few installed applications: it came with a lot of junk apps but lacked some very basic and important utilities. And of course the ‘moto’ stuff is largely worthless.

  17. All I really want is a better Camera for my MAXX. 8MP and it looks like baby do-do. If the update would fix that, and only that, then I will say that the MAXX is hands down the best on the market. The battery alone makes it the best, but what I am trying to say is complete the challenge and give us a better camera!

  18. If I did not have a contract with Verizon for years…………I would be gone and never get a Motorola product again!

  19. I don’t want ICS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Leave that crap on the new phones with all the great bugs that is ailing them. I’ve had enough bugs in Gingerbread and they are finally gone. Don’t need new ones for crying out loud.

  20. There’s one thing I can pretty much guarantee at this point. It’s extremely unlikely I’ll buy any Android device besides a Nexus. I went from the Fascinate (Samsung Galaxy S), which was a year behind on updates at best, to the Droid Razr Maxx, which was supposed to have ICS months and months ago (March was the absolute latest expected).
However, from several articles I’ve read it seems more recent Ice Cream Sandwich delays on the Razr are due to them wanting to release a newer version – if I remember right, they had a 4.0.3 build ready to go, but decided to update it to 4.0.4 before it was released OTA, and the new build is taking longer than expected.

    • I read recently that motorols was talking about skipping ICS and going straight to Jelly Bean which is 5.0. It is supposed to be out in the fall from what I read.

      • Not for certain how true it is but if we do get the 4.0.4 update then the 5.0 update comes out then waiting on 4.0.4 was just a waste of time.

  21. You know what? Being a Bionic owner, I say HAH!
Now it’s the Razr’s turn to feel the neglect and torment that the Bionic had been enduring this whole time. 😀

  22. I read all these post about being mad at Verizon and Motorola but I would rather them be sure the update will work before they push it out. I had the Samsung galaxy fasinate and when they pushed an update through before it was ready it made my phone a paperweight. I would rather them take a little bit longer on the update than have my phone turn into a paperweight again!!!!!

    • This wouldn’t be a problem if the phone makers and carriers weren’t obsessed with putting bloatware on the phones… They marketed the phone side by side with the Galaxy Nexus as though it would get ICS in like a month – that’s what really bugs me. I wouldn’t have gotten the phone if I’d realized I wouldn’t get ICS for so long…

  25. I HATE IT!! I wish it was MIA now! I’m so unhappy with the update ice cream sanwich on my droid razr! I’m having conflicts with the draw something application, my photo’s aren’t uploading to my photobucket album, and the sound controls are screwy and not working right! I get error update messages all day, over and over. This phone is only a few months old. Can I uninstall the update? I will hate to have to go to the verizon store AGAIN so soon :/
