Motorola is working hard on that update for the DROID Bionic we told you about earlier this month. They confirmed that the Bionic had a pretty large list of issues and promised an update within the next 30-60 days. So basically from November 1st to the end of the year. I have good news, it appears they are ready to let a few users test the update so hopefully things are going well.

Motorola doesn’t appear to be using the term “soak test” anymore as those were rolling out to users, now it seems they are doing early beta builds for the Motorola Feedback Network members only and calling them “projects”. Not a bad idea given the many update failures they’ve had recently. Basically this means they have an update for the device that needs a bit of testing first. Hopefully it fixes most of the many bugs from this acknowledged bug list.

This is the email being sent to users:

Thanks for joining the Motorola Feedback Network. We are preparing a project for owners of the Motorola Droid Bionic on Verizon, and would like to invite you to participate. Click to take a short enrollment survey for this project. Please note that you must be a member in good standing of the Motorola Owners’ Forums to take part.

If you are no longer using your Droid Bionic and wish to update your Motorola Feedback Network profile so you can be part of projects for a different Motorola phone, please . If you use the same computer as previous registrations, you can update your profile. If you do not, simply re-register with your current Motorola product. To opt out of the MFN see the link at the bottom of this email.

This is a confidential project under the terms of the Motorola Feedback Network. Do not post any details or information about this project on any public sites.

Thanks — we hope to be in contact with you soon.

So far Motorola looks to be on track for that original 30-60 day update time frame that was originally set. Its only been 15 days and they are already looking for testers. Hopefully it will get all squared away and approved before the end of the year and we see an official OTA update in early December. Obviously this is not Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich this early, but we’ve also been told that is on the way too. If updates aren’t your thing then keep your eyes on the Bionic CM7 development.

If you are a part of the “project” for the Bionic feel free to send us a few details in the comments, or hit that TIP US button at the top of the page.

  1. I was wondering if i could test because mine keeps dropping data and locking up. I have had three droid x and three droid x2 and now this one and still having diffront problems but looks like to me going to be going back to samsung soon if not fixed. I have five phones and is bad to pay for something that dont work but half the time.

  2. Same here, and I have only had the phone for a day, I actually switched back to my thunderbolt until this gets all sorted out :(. Sad part is, I actually like the bionic. I hate just looking at it and not using it.

  3. I like the phone, but have had nothing but problems trying to get it to link to my microsoft exchange server…after spending hours on the phone with corporate IT people, Motorolla, and Verizon we have come to conclusion that we have to wait on the update…

I went through four Thunderbolts and was switched- out with the Droid Bionic. .On my third and not happy. Thought I was all over the drama after getting the bionic…nope! If I had my Thunderbolt still, I would switch back. Heard now they are switching out the Bionic for the razer! Whats next? Guess I will keep getting a credit back to me each month! That or other steps will have to take place.

  5. Motorola needs to get this fixed. You are losing customers. I will go to samsung soon if not fixed. 303.00 to walk out the door for a phone that is pure garbage. When working properly it is a nice phone.

I have had my bionic now for about 2 months and there has been several occasions where my phone freezes up on me and want shut off as well as internet connections problems in 4g area and in wifi. I have debated on going back to my iphone because of so many problems with this device.

  7. People need to remember this is probably faster and more powerful then their first computer. It is made and designed by ” humans ” not God. There will be “bugs and glitches”. As for mine I Love mine. Didn’t even consider the iphone. Too many problems and way too small a screen.
