Since we still have not seen the actual size of the battery that will come in the Droid Bionic, or how long it will actually last this will do. Someone has been nice enough to leak more than a few photos showing the Bionic on both 4G LTE and 3G at different levels of battery life. While these first pictures look good, they are a little deceiving to say the least.

Seeing 14 hours of usage and still showing 60% battery life, over 25 hours and having 15% (below) looks amazing and like the battery life we all wish our Android phones had, this just isn’t the case. These are no way realistic results but they are new images and figured you’d like to see them. Go ahead and right now go to “battery use” on your own Android phone and the “display usage” is probably the first or second one on the list, and has used the most battery. These screenshots show the phone was on idle (as in not being used) for most of the time and the display usage is only at 4%. So while the results look impressive, they aren’t accurate for real life day to day usage.

There is one good thing we can take away from these photos, and that is the battery life will still be decent and probably better than most phones available. We all know and have heard the horror stories of the Thunderbolt only lasting a few hours on 4G LTE even without being used much. So things look to be much improved here with the Bionic. Standby battery life as well as 4G LTE use does seem to be improved here, but I’ll still take these with a grain of salt until I get the device in my own hands.

Remember while looking at the usage chart we see no phone calls, no text or SMS app, no games, no browser usage. Calling this “moderate” use is a bit over the top but either way it’s better than nothing right?

  1. the reason that motorola uses the rgbw qHD screen is because of the screen energy use is so small. the screen has R-red, G-green, B-blue, W-white. the white subpixel is what allows it to save so much energy & makes the screen as bright as the “LG Nova screen” the motorola RGBW screen made from samsung & LG’s Nova screen are the only screens to have 700 nits brightness, but the motorola qHD is higher resolution, sharper, has more contrast & uses less than 40% energy than super amoled. the white sub-pixel is what give it the advantage over all other screen because like the amoled screen uses no power at all on black dispay areas, the RGBW uses no power for WHITE areas & we all know that we use white much more than black *web sites, apps, photo’s & almost all backgrounds for all app’s & especially websites. so in order to create white it doesnt need to turn on all RGB sub-pixels & just has to shut off the white sub pixel *which is actually clear* so where there is a white back ground there is no charge needed where all other lcd & amoled’s need to turn 3 subpixels on this qHD has them all off & thats basically most of the time & you can imagine how bright the whites are since there is no filtering from having to pass threw any subpixels at all, which is why it has the brightest screen of all, along with the Nova. in the daylight you can see your screen enough to see the colors even while the sun is bright & directly on your screen. the most amazing part of it is that these are the new RGBW screen which have 2 layers of light filters *like nokia’s “clear black” amoled screens, they also use 1 filter to enhance its colors & protect it from the lights effects to wash the vibrancy out* these 2 layers of lights do an amazing job with the contrast & keeps the screen very clear with colors still vivid & vibrant. this is the screen that rumor says is going to be on the ipad 3. ef apple. anyway thats why this screen will usually be 3rd,4th or even 5th in the power consumption.
