Today we’re getting reports that the folks from Verizon and Motorola are preparing an update for their keyboard-touting DROID 4 smartphone. We’ve received multiple tips that Motorola is sending out invites for their beta test, the Motorola feedback network, and an update is coming soon to the handset. We’re expecting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with this update, but can’t say for sure.

Motorola updated the DROID 4 slider back in August to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and have been busy lately getting their latest devices all on Jelly Bean. Now that the DROID RAZR and MAXX have been updated, the DROID 4 should be next in line for the tasty treat.

According to Droid-Life the feedback member emails have arrived for multiple users, although sadly it doesn’t actually say anything that tips us that this is indeed Jelly Bean. It’s possible that Motorola is preparing a bug fixing update that will keep us on ICS, but this should in fact be Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean like the others have received.

Motorola’s update timeline map confirms the DROID 4 will see an update to Jelly Bean, but until more details arrive on this latest software update in testing we’ll have to wait and see. The DROID 4 is long overdue for a software and bug fixing update, so neither would surprise us at this point. More details can be found from the Motorola support forum link below. Get ready for an update D4 owners.
