Well that didn’t take long. AT&T has announced that the Motorola Atrix update we reported this morning is now official and out of Beta. Not only that, but there’s not one, but two updates. Firmware updates 4.1.57 and 4.1.83 offer improved battery life, multimedia with Bluetooth and other headsets, 2G/EDGE mobile hotspot capability, better data speed, Yahoo e-mail over WiFi and numerous other tweeks. The Atrix display will also now turn off while charging from a wall charger.

To update your Atrix phone, AT&T advises connecting to a WiFi hotspot or private WiFi network. Users will then receive an OTA update notification. Select “Download” and then “Install Now” once the download has completed. The Atrix will automatically restart. Please note that if not connected via Wi-Fi, users will not be able to start the download.

Should users be unable to update their phones, AT&T advises to verify WiFi connection and then disable WiFi settings under the Wireless and Networks tab. Then re-enable WiFi settings and reboot. Then reconnect and try again. If users need additional assistance, contact AT&T. Thanks to Zack at Droid-Life for the heads up!

  1. I just tried and says I have the most current update. I don’t. I called AT&T and they had me contact Motorola who said it isn’t out of Beta yet.

  2. Had the exact same experience. On call with Motorola now but expecting the same “not so helpful” response. Looks like the update was not planned properly and anyway it’s not IPhone so ATT doesn’t give a damn about it.

    • Had a chat with Motorola Tech support and they said that you cannot manually download the update by going to system update. Need to wait for the update notification. They didn’t have a specific time frame in which you are supposed to get the notification by.

  3. I didn’t get the update either. The AT&T chat rep did some research, and noted that a limited pre-selected group was only able to get the update. She refered me to call Motorola. The Motorola rep said the same, and was unable to provide a date with when this update (4.1.83) would be available for everyone.

  5. Lost many of my contacts after “successful” v4.5.91 software update on my Atrix. I like some of the new features but would trade them all back for those contacts. Went from 300 contacts to 185.

  6. With recent update lost all my pics and won’t keep pics I have taken recently. Apps won’t work correctly and search options don’t work. Can’t figure how to look at contacts while using the phone. Will not buy another Motorola, will tell everyone I know about these problems. Should have been some type of warning. Plus they do not offer an easy way to back up to your computer. I want a new phone, maybe I will go back to apple.
