All of you dual-core wielding Motorola ATRIX 4G slinging bandits out there can be joyous of the day, for today you receive a software update totaling in at 17MB that’ll update your system to 4.1.57. This update brings a few changes you’ll be sure you love including improvements in Bluetooth, your fingerprint reader, battery life, screen features, phone stability, and your car dock connecting via 3.5mm jack. Sound good? Grab it!

The way you might grab this update for yourself is to go to Settings – About phone – System updates – and click Download. You’ll have to wait a couple of minutes (took about 3 for me,) then hit the Install button when the popup appears. If you back out of the popup on accident, just go back into your System updates screen and it’ll show up once more.

Once you’ve hit Install, your install is starting. Step away from the phone and DEFINITELY don’t play Angry Birds. Take a peek at the install process pics below, and see the press info for update specifics here:

Bluetooth Improved multimedia experience with Bluetooth devices as well as the ability to use phone with additional headsets
Fingerprint reader Improved fingerprint reader performance
Battery Improved battery performance for longer battery life
Screen Display will turn off automatically now while charging directly on wall charger
Phone stability Improved stability resulting in fewer occurrences of touch unresponsiveness and/or programs quitting unexpectedly.
Car dock Improved performance of car dock and 3.5mm jack

  1. Update causes other problems with phone. More dropped calls, and wifi connection constantly disconnects, my phone never reboot but thanks to update it now does. There are many others who did update and have similar issues. Keep in my mind once you update there is no rollback!!

  2. Does this update provide AT&T with a tool to limit tethering “wireless hotspot” without a the user having a tethering plan?

  3. This update completely ruined my phone. After it installed and did the reboot, I received the error message “Failed to boot 2 Starting RSD mode” and it just sits there. Unable to do a hard factory restores to defaults or anything. Just got off 2 hours of chat support with AT&T, they’re sending me a new phone in 2 days. SUCKS!!!

  4. I don’t want my display to turn off when plugged in most of the time – like in my truck listening to music. Is there a way to disable this?

  5. @gotroot – No, it did not unroot mine. It probably does not stop rooting, but can’t be sure.

Great update, no issues so far 5 hours into it..The fingerprint scanner actually works now. I almost returned my phone over how crappy the print scanner was, but am very glad I didn’t.

  6. I did the update yesterday, works fine no signigicant differences; it is a little faster, little different screen definition and the fingerprint reader does work better. However EVERYTHING else works fine, no glitches at all.

  7. They are not addressing problems I have found. Tags to photos disappear after one or two days. It lacks an FM radio. On line radio no good as constantly buffering and expensive with roaming charges. Now on to forth handset from Orange and want to get rid of this handset.

  9. After installing this SW upgrade, my phone started having an issue where sometimes when there is an incoming call, the screen doesn’t light up – it stays at black screen and i can’t see who is calling. Anyone else experienced this issue and know how to fix? Thanks!

  10. I thought the update was an improvement but its screwed up my phone. I cannot browse and receiive an incoming call- its goes to voicemail and there’s no record of it. The airplane mode switched on by itself. I hate all my contacts being together, the info is wrong and it wont let me change it, when i put my phone on speaker, i have to hang up to turn it off. I’m so dissatisfied, well, noI’m furious. I called at&t and got “disconnected” 3 times so i gave up. There are many more problems, data roaming all the time, horrible reception. My rinky dink phone worked better than this one. You constantly have to charge it. Its not the modt poweful phone on the market, its crap.

  11. I really hate this new update. My whole phone’s appearance is ugly and different. I want to go back to the old software!

  12. I didn’t like this last update (8/16/2011). I DON’T want my info in the “cloud” so I use outlook, It destroyed my outlook connection and contacts. Fortunately I (with some work and a lot of time) was able to restore what I had because I keep everything on my computer. But, in short, this was not a “user friendly” update…I hate google.

  13. This update has given me nothing but problems. The phone will boot again after start up. Bluetooth keeps shutting off and the phone will turn off and back on by itself. Anyone else having issues with the new update?
