If you were concerned about Motorola’s dedication moving forward, this should satisfy that suspicion. They have begun rolling out the Android 4.4.2 update to the Moto G. Their mid-range phone is going to receive the newest version of Android ahead of devices from other manufacturers.

This increases their Android 4.4 lineup to encompass their entire current lineup. Earlier today, they began rolling out the Android 4.4 update for the DROID lineup with Verizon. The Moto X saw the update at the same time as the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7, giving Motorola a truly finished rollout of KitKat. Historically, Motorola has been suspect about supporting devices. The new look Moto has made a complete turnaround, though.

The update will come to those devices purchased via motorola.com and Amazon in the US first, with carrier devices and this win other regions seeing the update as soon as possible. With Motorola’s slight overlay on Android, we don’t expect that it would take long to see the update hit carrier branded devices. Regionally, Motorola has done a great job at making sure their presence is felt throughout the world.

Though now a Google company, Motorola continues to operate independently. This update, among other things, only proves Motorola’s dedication to righting the ship. We really like the fact that on top of pushing an update to a mid-tier device ahead of flagships from other OEMs, they’re also supporting a mid-range handset with updates. We don’t normally see that from anyone, but it’s great for everyone who has — or wants — a Moto G.

  1. Not their entire current lineup… The 2012 Droid line is still available, both from Verizon, and directly from Motorola. The 2012 Droid line still doesn’t have KitKat, though that is in the pipeline.
