As the smartwatch competition heats up among various OEMs like Samsung, LG and Motorola, Microsoft will surely not be far behind. Rumors are that their wearable will be coming into the market by October this year. Unlike the previously mentioned brands that are using the Android Wear platform, this one will reportedly be cross-platform, allowing it to have a wider user base.

At this point, not much is known about the smartwatch, particularly when it comes to what is inside the device, but there are already rumours spreading that the Microsoft wearable would be different from the ones already out (or coming out) in the market. Early speculation says that the smartwatch will have an inner-wrist placement because it is more natural for people to look at their device that way rather than the outer-wrist design that current wearable watches have. They say it will also be employing a slim band, kind of like what Nike has in its Fuelband instead of the thick ones used by such smartwatches as Pebble, Sony Smartwatch 2, Samsung Galaxy Gear and Samsung Gear 2.

Another source has said that Microsoft will be employing 11 sensors for the smartwatch and will also contain various chips, including Atmel and TI. But other than that, there are no more leaks about what will be inside of the device, as well as what special features it will have that will be different from the competitors.

Microsoft better hurry up though, as the market will probably be crowded by the time it comes out. The LG G Watch, which is the first smartwatch on the Android Wear platform, is set to ship this week already, while Samsung Gear Live is already accepting pre-orders on the Google Play Store. The anticipated round-face smartwatch, the Moto 360, is set to come out this summer.
