McDonald’s visitors in the UK will soon be able to wirelessly charge their smartphones while they hork down a large fry and Big Mac with the restaurants adding 600 Qi chargers to locations around the country. The announcement of the roll out of the wireless chargers came from Aircharge as part of an expanded partnership.

The 600 chargers will be added to 50 McDonald’s restaurants in London and other cities around the UK. One location reports that the wireless chargers have been very popular with some visitors to the eatery waiting as long as 30 minutes to access the chargers.

The expanded rollout of the Qi chargers comes after the initial market test with Aircharge and McDonald’s was a success. The Aircharge charger hotspots are designed to be robust enough to with stand spills and cleaning.

The chargers are water resistant and the Qi charging protocol means that many visitors already have devices that support the wireless chargers. Customers eating in the locations who don’t have a Qi supported phone can use a provided charging receiver.

Kind of defeats the purpose when 30 minutes worth of battery discharge is spent waiting to top it up again.
