Today, LG has officially unveiled one of their truly first fully waterproof and dustproof smartphones, the LG Optimus GJ. All the details regarding this new handset were revealed in Taiwan, although we don’t expect it to be headed to the states anytime soon. Just like Samsung’s GALAXY S 4 Active, LG’s flagship device (from last year) now has one too.

This is essentially the LG Optimus G with a slight redesign aimed at being waterproof and dustproof, and all the other specs of their flagship from late last year remain the same. The Optimus GJ will enjoy the same 4.7-inch 720p HD IPS display, a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and the usual good stuff.

LG managed to keep that 13 megapixel camera on this waterproof model, and it also comes with a decent 2,280 mAh battery, although bigger would be better. You’ll be enjoying Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and LG states it can be submerged in over 1 meter of water for 30 minutes without a problem. This waterproof and dustproof trend in near top quality phones is only getting bigger, and hopefully it will continue.

I’ll take the one on the right. I mean the phone of course, red isn’t really my thing. LG hired a few models to use their phones while enjoying a day at the pool, and got the smartphones plenty wet in the process. This looks to be their answer to the Xperia Z, as well as Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S 4 Active we’ve been seeing lately.

The device is available in Taiwan today for around $600, but we have no details on if (or when) it will be launched elsewhere or ever come to the states. More pictures and details can be found at the translated source page below.
