The Mobile World Congress 2016 has barely started, and already one of the more exciting things to come out of is the new flagship device from LG. True to the rumors, the LG G5 is indeed a metal uni-body device, with a 5.3” Quad HD display and 3D Arc Glass. But probably what makes this smartphone so interesting is that it has a modular design so you can customize your device according to what you need or whatever is available, for now.

The companion devices are collectively known as LG Friends and these accessories will bring enhanced camera, video, and audio experiences. There are a few available now, and it includes the LG CAM, which allows you to take better pictures with its grip attachment, a two-step shutter release, a dedicated video recording button, a zoom wheel, and a shortcut switch for the camera app. The LG 360 CAM lets you take spherical and panoramic photos and videos , all without actually rotating your camera or needing 3rd party apps.

This will also give LG a chance to partner with other OEMs to create more LG Friends, like a partnership with B&O Play and its Hi-Fi Plus, when attached, will add to the LG G5 a 32-bit DAC. Soon you’ll have drone controllers and remotely-controlled robots. The possibilities for modular attachments are endless. The smartphone itself has a lot of features to offer on its own, with its dual lens (switch between normal and wide-angle shots), an always-on portion of the main screen to show the time and notifications, a slide-out 2800mAh removable battery. It runs on a Snapdragon 820 processor and has 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage that can be expanded to 2TB through a microSD card.

The LG G5 will be available in silver and titanium colors. You will be able to get the smartphone and the LG Friends through Verizon and and AT&T this spring. Pricing and exact availability schedule will be coming out over the next few weeks.
