After weeks of speculation, LG finally officially confirmed their upcoming new flagship as the LG G4 (maybe the last of its kind?) when they released the official teaser video yesterday. Now they’ve sent out the “formal invite” for the launch later this month, and it looks like it’s all about leather and possibly confirming rumors of a leather-backed smartphone. And since they once again avoided competing with announcements of other OEM flagships during the Mobile World Congress, they have now caught the attention of the digital world.

It is still three weeks away, but expect interest and speculation to ramp up soon, as it is expected that the LG G4 will be the last one in the G series and may even turn out to be “radically different” than all the previous flagships. How different it will be though, remains to be seen. But just based on the event invite, it looks like leather of some sorts will be involved. It may just be one of the options if you decide to build your device through the Moto Maker (although leather has always been an option there). Or it may be that it is just a leather case. Or, as some of us are hoping, it may mean that it will be the backing material, out of the box.

Aside from the leather part, the invite also explicitly shows that the camera will have a f/1.8 main camera, which was also included in the teaser video, as well as laser-assisted auto-focus. This means that better low-light picture taking is one of the draws of this phone as well, although a lot of other new flagships also boast of this capability.

As for the other specs, LG has not released an official sheet yet, but based on the sightings on the GFXBench, we have an idea of what it will entail. Let’s wait a few more weeks to see once again if all the leaks and speculations were spot on.
