LG G4 Multicolor Leather Back Cover

Less than a week before D-Day, South Korean electronics giant LG is busy gearing up for the release of the 2015 flagship phone–the LG G4. It’s going to be a global affair and phone will immediately be available in the Korean market the next day. This means Samsung’s newest flagship, the Galaxy S6, will have its direct competitor. LG’s advantage? Camera with f/1.8 aperture, removable battery, and its genuine leather back cover.

LG Electronics is also banking on its 5.5-inch QHD LCD Panel which was recently shown off in a teaser video. It’s the first time the company is using the technology on a device.

Meanwhile, the phone’s 16MP camera module with f/1.8 aperture is also the first time to be used on a smartphone and in the country. This one is important because any aperture between f/1.4 to f/2.8 is good enough for a DSLR camera, how much more for a smartphone. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S6’s camera is also 16MP. As we said in our recent review of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, “it has the nicest camera we’ve ever seen on an Android device, bar none”. There’s the standard LED flash, autofocus, and optical image stabilization too. We’ll see how the LG G4 camera’s will fare when we get our hands on one.

As for the battery, the LG G4 will be equipped with a 3,000 mAh battery. It can be removed from the phone while the Galaxy S6 has a non-removable Li-Ion 2,550 mAh battery. LG’s is already better but we have yet to know how long it will last. Battery life will still depend on one’s usage but at least the removable description is a plus. This way, LG G4 owners can replace the battery anytime or when it’s worn out already.

LG G4 Genuine Leather Back Cover

Design-wise, the LG G4 looks similar to the LG G3 but the genuine leather cover makes the latest G phone more classy. It’s the first smartphone with a real leather back material which is very much different from the usual aluminum metal back cover of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and other models in the market today. The leather gives the feeling of luxury and exclusivity. LG G4’s leather back will also come in a variety of colors so there are more options for personalization. I’m guessing some 3rd-party or even LG itself will add leather embossing options so potential buyers can add their initials.

The LG G4 may not rival the Galaxy S6’s dual-edged sibling, the Galaxy S6 edge, when it comes to curved edges but LG’s latest flagship boasts of a slightly curved display. It’s nothing compared to the G Flex 2 but the G4 has a curvature of r3000.
