While KDDI’s fancy new Isai FL smartphones is not the LG G3, it might as well be it. Not only does it sport almost everything you might want to find in LG‘s upcoming flagship, it even has that 5.5-inch Quad HD display everyone is talking about.

Yesterday, LG proudly proclaimed that its 5.5-inch panel with a resolution of 2560×1440 has just been certified and is ready to head for its next flagship for this half of the year. Little did we know that it had already an actual device that flaunts it. Japanese carrier KDDI worked with LG to bring out the Isai FL, LG’s first 2K display smartphone that isn’t the G3. With that size and resolution, you have an effective pixel density of 538 ppi, conducive for watching Blu-ray quality videos, that is, if the smartphone can handle it. But it also has other benefits, like a larger space for dual window multi-tasking via LG’s QSlide, or simply for cripser and clearer text and images even if you zoom too far in.

The rest of the Isai FL’s hardware don’t disappoint either. You have the high-end quad-core Qualcomm Snapdargon 801 running at 2.5 GHz, though LG could have probably gone a bit higher than the 2 GB of RAM. There is 32 GB of internal storage, expandable via a micro SD or SDXC card, though the battery is unfortunately not removable. The 13.2 megapixel camera is capable of shooting 4K videos. The device has support for LTE, with Voice over LTE (VoLTE) said to be coming soon, Korea’s WiMAX network, and 1seg broadcasting. On the software side, you have Android 4.4 and, of course, Knock Code.

This is no LG G3 however, as the external design clearly shows. You do have back-side volume controls, but the power button is nowhere to be seen. It does have that weird slot beside the camera again, though KDDI is keeping silent on its functionality. The KDDI Isai FL is limited to the Japanese market, but its presence is probably enough to whet the appetite of any watching out for the LG G3’s expected unveiling at the end of the month.
