Lenovo is in an interesting period in its business. In its home market in China, the demand for laptops and PCs are on a decline. The need is still there, yes, but it’s not a growing market like smartphones are. In that area, Lenovo’s Moto brand is still relevant in the US and Europe, but Lenovo fights a losing battle in China with the rise of hugely popular Chinese manufacturers like Huawei and Xiaomi. Where do they go from here?

First up, we recently heard that Lenovo is planning to dig in and get behind the Moto brand, shelving the iconic-but-outdated Motorola brand name. In a recent interview, Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang is still bullish about the company’s chances in the US. He also revealed that there will be a new Moto phone this July. The company is launching a “more innovative, more attractive” device in July aimed at US consumers, he said.

The US market is still dominated by Apple, but that influence is on a decline. Yang is convinced that there is still room for Moto in the US market, saying that Apple has reached a ceiling in their device superiority. “Apple already has more than 50% share in the U.S. Can you expect more? I don’t think so,” he said. “I think Android will take more share.”

So a new Moto phone in July will get pundits working on guessing what it could be. We’re pretty sure that new information will be available on this new phone pretty soon.
