Lenovo announced the S5000 tablet and the Vibe X smartphone during IFA. We recently shared some hands-on images with the Vibe X and now we have some for the S5000. The Lenovo S5000 is a 7-inch Android tablet, and given the size, it seems only natural to have it sitting as competition for the Nexus 7. Of course, while we have some specs for the S5000, we have yet to see the other important aspect -- the price.
Given the specs for the S5000 we would hope to see this one priced lower than the Nexus 7. Time will tell how that all plays out, but for now we can say the tablet is sporting a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800. Basically, you will be getting an HD display, but it will be of lower resolution than many of the other tablets we are seeing introduced these days.
Lenovo has the S5000 powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz MediaTek 8389 processor with 1GB of RAM. The tablet also has a 3450 mAh battery, 1.6 megapixel front-facing camera and 5 megapixel rear-facing camera. Otherwise, the tablet will be running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and also have support for 3G HSPA+ connectivity.
The S5000 measures in with a thickness of 7.9mm and a weight of 246 grams. All that being said, the Lenovo S5000 is a pretty standard 7-inch Android tablet. That is to say it is shaped for use in portrait mode. The tablet has a Lenovo logo sitting on the bottom of the front and also centered on the back. The rear-facing camera seems hard to miss and the 3.5mm headphone jack is sitting up top.
The SIM card slot is on the left-hand side and the right-side has the power button and volume rockers. Features of the tablet aside, it does have a decent look and feel. Similar to what we saw with the Vibe X, Lenovo hasn't offered all that much in terms of the release details. So far they have yet to announce any pricing and otherwise have said the tablet will be available in December.
