Lenovo has a brand new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet on the block today that might be worth taking a second look at. It’s called the IdeaPad A2109 (not to be confused with the S2109) and is a pretty great package all for $299. This might not dethrone the Nexus 7, but those wanting a larger screen with similar specs should take note.

The IdeaPad A2109 comes with a 9-inch 1280 x 800 resolution HD display, the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage all for only $299. That is as close as the Nexus 7 price you’re going to get (for now) that also has the Tegra 3 under the hood. It doesn’t have Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but you’ll be speeding along with 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich for now.

What makes this tablet even more exciting is the fact that it has a few other specs the Nexus 7 is missing. Those include micro-HDMI out, micro-SD for extra storage, and two cameras. Yup, you’ll get a 3 megapixel rear and 1.3 VGA front camera with this tablet from Lenovo.

We haven’t heard much regarding this tablet but aren’t sure why, as this is a fairly attractive package. Lenovo also has a very similar device in the 7-inch form factor, the A2107, that we’d love to compare with the Nexus 7. Sadly there’s no word on the smaller sibling. For those interested in this Lenovo IdeaPad A2109 9-inch quad-core tablet you can get it today — right this minute. It is available both online and in-store at Best Buy for just $299.

    • That link is for the wrong product – check the model#. I played with one at Best Buy tonight, it is Tegra3 and it does have a rear camera.

  1. 3mp rear camera, vga front facing… really?
Why do companies continue to try to “check boxes” that consumers don’t actually care about?

Every single person I know that owns a tablet (including myself) would rather have a 720p front facing camera for chat than a duo of cameras that are both sub-par for their respective purposes.
Even if the situation ever came up where I HAD to have a picture and didn’t have my phone, I’d just spin the tablet around and take a pic with the HD front facing camera.

HD chat cam makes MUCH more sense than dual cams on a tablet.

  2. Any reviews of this thing out yet? I had to return my Asus TF700 because of build issues and decided not to play roulette on finding an exchange unit that was up to standards. Now I need something else, and the Sammy P10 seems like it’s still a long way off…

  3. Best Buy had one out and I played a little with it. Nice build quality and pretty speedy. I like the physical size, just about perfect, but they I looked at the Asus T700 and you could really notice the resolution difference between the screens. If Lenovo did better than 1280×800 it would be mine. Plus it used a TN panel, NOT IPS or similar. Bummer.

  4. I am glad I decided to ignore all those negative video reviews out there.

Here in Holland there is no better Tablet for this price range (199 euros) !

I purchased it in april 2013 (this review above is from 2012 and have my A2109 isrunning Jelly Bean 4.1.1(dutch)

For the price, it over exceeded my expectations.

It’s not only that it got a GPS chip , but it is working great ( outdoors of course), locking reasonably fast to the satellites and stable!
Great WiFi performance unlike many other budget tablets over here.

Rear Camera aint good , but who needs a rearcamera on a Tablet anyway. Other (even more expensive) tablets don’t even have one!

Screen is no IPS and the lack of IPS is only really noticeable when playing some games that needs tilting the screen forward/down but still doable.
    All other angles are ok.

Having that said, for the rest, screen looks good enough

Many other more expensive tablets got same resolution (1280×800 ) even on bigger screens (10.1″)
It’s snappy (quadcore processor), battery efficient, got great sound, meaning …. great all-round performance

It’s not the best tablet out there, but it’s certainly the BEST BUY ! ( Did I mention , 199 euros?)
And the size ! 9 inches is the best in my opinion- not too big , not too small

    Just great!
