Boost Mobile has announced the upcoming availability for their next waterproof handset. The device is the Kyocera Hydro Icon and it will be available beginning on June 17th. The Hydro Icon will be selling for a contract free $149.99 and available for use with the Monthly Unlimited plans which begin at $40 per month.

The Hydro Icon is the latest in the series of waterproof devices coming from Kyocera. Specifically, the Hydro Icon has an IP57 certification which means it is protected against dust and can handle being submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes time. Other highlights for the handset include LTE (as well as 3G) connectivity, an impact-resistant 4.5-inch qHD display, quad-core 1.2GHz processor and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Remaining specs include 8GB of internal storage space, a microSD (32GB) card slot and an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash. The handset will be sporting a 2000 mAh battery and make use of Kyocera’s Eco-Mode and MaxiMZR power management tools. There will also be support for wireless charging.

Looking aside from the hardware specs and back to the plans — the $40 per month Monthly Unlimited plan offers unlimited talk, text and data. The fine print associated with that plan makes it clear the first 500MB of data is high speed, and afterward you will be slowed. A $50 per month plan will bump the high speed data to 2.5GB and a $60 per month plan will bump that to 5GB.
