Kyobo eReader shows off mirasol color e-paper on video

Qualcomm has yet to announce and plans or products for its mirasol display e-readers other than the Kyobo eReader that was just launched this week in South Korea. We haven’t been able to enjoy this new screen technology yet for ourselves but now that the reader is available a few videos have appeared on YouTube for us to enjoy.

With a 1.0 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread with some UI changes and a large set of ebooks and magazines available the Kyobo eReader is quite nice. The important thing here is the 5.7″ mirasol display pushing you all the content. More details on the new display technology is available in the announcement post, and below is a video demo showing off how it really looks.

The Qualcomm mirasol display uses a front-lit LED system rather than conventional backlit displays and houses tons of tiny mirrors to project the brightness back. Allowing for not only an amazing viewing experience in bright situations like outdoors, but also having exceptional colors from the natural lighting. The more sunlight the better the display gets — no longer will users have to run from the sun or seek shade. While this is very new technology and the first device of its kind to have such a display we expect more options and improved models will be shown by Qualcomm at CES 2012. Here is the video for those interested.
