Kodak, which has of course made its mark in photography for the past decades, announced back in January at the CES that they will be releasing their first smartphone, the Kodak IM5, soon thereafter. However, that has come true five months after launch, and it is currently available only in the Netherlands, and not in the UK as was previously expected. Will consumers trust this brand enough as it makes its foray into mobile digital products?

The IM5 isn’t any great shakes as a smartphone, but for a first try into this new industry, it’s a pretty decent mid-tier device. It runs on a Mediatek MT6592 chipset with 1.7GHZ octa-core processor with a 5.7-inch display and its 720p resolution. In terms of memory and storage, it has a 1GB RAM and an 8GB built-in storage but can be expanded to 32GB with a microSD card. The battery of this smartphone is just a lowly 2,100 mAh.

But of course, being a big name in photography means that people will expect good specs on your device’s camera. Well, you should be happy with the 13MP main camera that has some manual control but focuses primarily on easy photo sharing and printing. If you’re not, then better look for another mid-range smartphone.

The Kodak IM5 is priced at 280 euros or around $315, a price that may be too expensive for something with those specs. It is already available in the Netherlands, not just for pre-ordering but for actual purchase already.
