News readers are still being used and we’re always on the lookout for one that will improve our mobile news reading habits. One of the latest is the Iven News Reader that is actually light, simple, and looks very modern. It can be used on any platform and we’re glad to know that it’s ready for Android. The app is live on the Google Play Store for most Android mobile users. By that we mean even those devices that run Android versions before Lollipop. So whether you’re phone is still running the old Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, or KitKat version, you can make use of the Iven News Reader app.

We’re not big fans of news readers but there are several ones thriving like the Paperboy News Reader; Newsstand, Zite, News360, Flipboard, and Feedly (Top 5 news readers for Android). The app already supports Material Design but it will still work on old Android versions.

Since Material Design elements are used, you’ll see the dark status bar icons (MM), dark/light theme, and immersive mode. Other features include Google-like splash screen/action buttons, responsive toolbar, swipe to refresh layout, text size options, option to disable images, and navbar tint. .

You won’t see any difference on the UI because most OS versions are supported. We learned about this reader app from an XDA forum so don’t be surprised if you see XDA as the default blog. You can do a number of things within the app like add CUSTOM FEEDS. Open the navigation drawer and you’ll notice the toolbar with the add button that you can click the. The feeds the will be added to a special sqlite database. If you want to delete a list or feed, just long click on an item. Feel free to use either the webview or the native articles UI.

  1. Zite has been bought and shutdown by flipboard for competition reasons. Flipboard is shit compared to zite. They have done a real disservice to the news feed scene.

  2. thanks for the consideration

i will push an update with the following changes:

    The most important are

    – Open new feeds by refreshing the ListView instead of app’s restart

    – improved description parsing/article’s layouts
    —–

    – bring back built in feeds (I also added yours) 🙂

    – improve feeds deletion system

    – much code simplification

    🙂
