Intel has struggled with the mobile markets, but their new chip today aims to fix that. Earlier this year Intel released their new Haswell 4th gen processors which finally brought serious power and battery life to laptops and ultrabooks. Today they company announced their new hybrid chip for laptops and tablets both called Bay Trail, which they hope can deliver the same boost to mobile devices.

The past few years Intel has been working vigorously to get into the tablet and mobile race, and so far we haven’t seen much traction. The few Intel smartphones haven’t sold, and they’re still far behind the likes of Qualcomm and Samsung.

Bay Trail has just been announced this morning, and is built on their next-generation 22nm Silvermont architecture, promising double the CPU and 3x the GPU performance from previous generations. All with less power and heat, to save battery life. While this will power Windows RT and 8 slates and hybrids, their new Atom Z3000 will be hitting Windows and Android tablets.

The Atom Z3000 range will be for tablets, and we’re hoping this can deliver some serious power and battery life to Android devices. With dual-core options on a budget, all the way up to a quad-core Z3770 offering speeds of 2.4 GHz. Intel hopes the Z3000 will hit Android devices from 7 to 11-inches and could help them stick around that $199 price point Google made popular with their original Nexus 7.

The new Bay Trail platform is set to blow Clover Trail out of the water, yet not waste any battery life, so that’s why this could be important. Android tablets finally having some serious computing power like never before. We’re expecting these to start arriving later this year just in time for the holidays.
