We have some tasty frozen treat news for the folks rocking EVO’s this afternoon. It looks like HTC has finally made their way through the device chain, and is now upgrading multiple EVO’s to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. You won’t get Sense UI 4.0 like the HTC One line of phones, but the upgrade should still be rather exciting.

Earlier today the HTC EVO 3D started getting the upgrade to ICS, and now multiple reports have just hit the wires confirming that the EVO Design 4G is also getting the much anticipated update. Thanks to the folks at Android Police the image below will tell you all you need to know about the EVO 3D’s upgrade to ICS.

Both devices will not be seeing HTC Sense UI 4.0, and instead 3.6 will grace your phones instead. HTC has reserved their latest 4.0 UI for the One branded phones. The update will bring everything we know and love about Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to both devices. Some of those include folders on the homescreen, Face unlock, better browser performance, and an enhanced camera experience.

You can see our HTC Vivid 4G LTE ICS hands-on for more of what to expect from ICS and Sense 3.6 if you’d like. Otherwise just do the usual and head into settings and check for updates right this moment. The update should be live for both devices and users should be seeing notifications to accept the over the air update, or can manually check for updates and get started. You’ll be losing root access here, so proceed with caution if you’re a member of the root crowd.

Once you accept the update let us know how it all goes in the comment section below.

    • I was, I uinstalled the Facebook update (apparently Facebook is included in Ice Cream Sandwich so you can’t remove it completely), reinstalled the update and then logged back in and they started appearing again.

  1. After the OTA, the camera shots are less clear outside the center area. Before the OTA, the pics were clear from edge to edge.

    • now..its hard to take picture from writing paper or computer screen.. my evo 3D cant focus..any solution?or how to downgrade my phone back to original OS version..

  2. I have had ICS on my Evo3d for a day now an so far it is incredible.the new camera is awesome. The look, the feel, all of it. And now that I have Chrome on my phone I can easily walk away from my computer and pick up right where I left off on my phone. No bugs for me as of yet but I am expecting one here and there. There is always one. A few apps are acting funny now but that’s because the devs are slackers. All on all… Freaking fantastic! Well done , Sprint, HTC and Google.

  3. I can’t open up my messages… I click on the application and it launches, but once in I get a little pop up that just says “please wait…”. Any recommendations on what to do?

  4. Not all of the ICS features work on my phone. Such as the option to respond to a call from the lock screen with a text message. Working my way through it, there seems to be some other features missing. Anyone else have the problem after the update?

  5. I got the update yesterday, the first thing that I faced that I got no service from the mobile network ” I am not on sprint now I am on vodafone Egypt ” this problem took 20 minutes then was been fixed automatically

I installed Chrome browser there’s crash when I use the mobile in default position that the keyboard disappears but when I rotate it It works fine

when I was moving in my mobile widgets on gingerbird I could do it fastly to see it moving in 3D but now no I just move normally

the Arabic language has been solved as well because regarding being in Egypt I was receiving SMS from my carrier in Arabic

I feel a little bit slow in the mobile performance

  7. just completed the update.. everything looks and runs great, except for one thing.. when i open “messages” the “please wait” pop up box appears and won’t go away.. i have already tried clearing the data in the messages app as well as clearing the cache.. any ideas?.. thanks..

    • Same thing happened to me. I ended up downloading a free messaging app, and as soon as I went to use the new one, the original started to work. Weird, right? I ended up deleting the new app I downloaded, and everything is working smooth now.

  8. So for some strange reason every time I exit out of an app before it goes to the home screen it shows the htc screen and then “Loading”. Does that happen to anyone else?

  9. I still can’t access my messages app. It has been giving me the “please wait” thing for far too long. Anyone have an idea how to fix this? It’s getting ridiculous. Also, my phone has been uber clunky and slow since the so-called “update” and my battery has been draining much faster. Not at all please with this update.

  10. I’ve had computers that faired better with nasty viruses than my poor EVO 3D is fairing with this nasty ICS thing. My camera and video camera are completely dead. My gallery with pictures of my kids for the past year and pictures that I need for work, does not work. It just will not open. The clock and weather widgets are unaccessible unless I go into apps and then click on them and then they are slow. I can’t transfer them to my home screen. Worst of all, the battery drains so fast that, even on the charger I get messages saying that the power is draining faster than the charger can provide, turn off all apps (there weren’t any running) and powere the phone off to maintain battery life. So I have to keep the phone on the charger and completely powered off, just to build enough charge to make an ocassional phone call. I can’t use any apps and I can’t receive an incoming call unless I’m already on the phone and call waiting interupts because the phone has to be powered off all the time. HTC and Sprint have both told me to “get used to it” and “deal with it” and basically, that beyond telling me to do a hard restart, they aren’t going to do anything to help me with my very expensive, but now nonfunctional phone. I now, thanks to ICS, have a paperweight on a cord. Thanks a lot Ice Cream Sandwich! I loved my phone and in one little download and three hours, I suddenly hate it. This is not an upgrade. It’s a total downgrade and a serious epic fail! There are people on other forums who are talking about a class action lawsuit! I hope all of us who have suffered like this actual get some recompensation. Obviously, HTC and Sprint don’t care and will do nothing!

  11. I have an EVO 3D and I upgraded to ICS on August 8. I was really excited about Chrome, but have had problems with it ever since. The screen flickers, the top half of the screen freezes and duplicates itself on the bottom half of the screen, and the keyboard disappears. This happens almost all of the time in Chrome, no matter what I am doing. I haven’t had similar problems with any other app. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome in October, which didn’t help. Any ideas?
