Coming along with the MediaPad X1 7.0, Huawei also announced a new smartphone. The handset is the Ascend G6 4G. This means we are still waiting on an announcement for the Ascend P7. While that wait continues, we did make a point to visit Huawei during our time here in Barcelona to check out the Ascend G6 4G.

This handset fills out the mid-range lineup, and the key feature here seems to be the 4G LTE push. But otherwise, we are looking at a 4.5-inch 960 x 540 display, quad-core 1.2GHz processor and 8 megapixel rear-facing camera. The rear-camera makes use of the Sony imaging sensor and has an f/2.0 aperture.

Other notable specs include a 5MP camera on the front, and a thickness of 7.85 mm. And as you’ll see from the images here in the post, the Huawei Ascend P6 4G is available in a variety of color options. The handset in the pics is the 4G model, however there was also a non-LTE model as well. That one is simply the Ascend P6, and while it looks the same, it is just a tad bit thinner at 7.5mm.

Huawei has said the Ascend P6 4G will be available beginning in April, with the 3G model coming towards the end of the first quarter. Pricing for the 3G model has yet to be announced. Huawei did say the 4G model would be €249 (roughly $345 in terms of US dollars). All that said, the handset is mid-range in terms of specs, but did feel solid overall.

We still have more hands-on coverage coming so make sure to keep an eye on the MWC 2014 hub throughout the day.
